Sophie Ellis-Bextor - "Freedom of the Night" + The Invisible Line (TBD)

Sounds so rich & dreamy definitely her best lead single since Catch You even better than Heartbreak I should say! Fingers crossed the music video lives up to it too!
This sounds truly fantastic (pun intended - it sounds like a long lost sister to Supersonic). Better than Heartbreak though - I don't agree. The chorus of Freedom Of The Night is a win. Its euphoric, catchy and very very Sophie! I'm still surprised that Shura co-wrote this.

I like how Verse 1 and Verse 2 have slightly different melodies. Can't wait for Friday.

I am loving this, it's very throwback for Sophie. This is the pop that's missing in our musical landscape, however not too keen on the melody leading into the chorus. Almost as if... she's bending the notes but can't reach them? Hard to describe as that's not the case, but something sounds off with the melody.

Some updates from this week's Spinning Plates episode.

1. Upcoming music video has been directed by Sophie Muller. It was a two day shoot, so a little more extensive than any recent video.
2. The choreography has been done by Polly Bennett, who choreographed Saltburn.
3. The video is a fresh concept but continues on a theme of Murder On The Dancefloor where Sophie plays the villain.

In addition to this Richard Jones has confirmed on X that the single artwork is a placeholder, as the album artwork/ campaign photography has only just been completed.

That actually sounds promising.

Uff, good to hear it's only a placeholder. Do you think they also shoot the album artwork at the same time (see: Wanderlust, Familia)?

Choreography, wie Sophie?
I was really hoping she would work with an other director this time, as there were other really great non Sophie Muller videos for previous singles.

Everything is aligning perfectly for this release.
It honestly sounds exactly like a Sophie track from 15 years ago and I have wanted this from her for an AGE.

I have enjoyed all of her albums and I really liked Hana, however this is the kind of music I want from Sophie. It doesn’t veer to far into euro dance pop which she started to do a bit too much with Make a Scene IMO. A true return to form it seems!

“Not Now”… a complete bop!

One thing I always really liked about Sophie at least in more recent years she's not afraid to be without make up or show herself unstyled, wich makes here very relatable and even more adorable etc. wich is quite a rare thing, considering the industry she's working in.

But I feel with all this new won success, sometimes they try to over sexualise her. Also wasn't there a recent article on why she's against botox and likes when she's not all done up all the time but Richard is not really keen on that?

I also really like natural Sophie, I think even a tiny bit more so.
