Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Real Pop Justice. Sometimes it happens.

For those who can't listen to 'Make A Scene' anymore on Spotify, I can recommend the re-release by Plastic Pop Records. It's still on sale. You also get Sophia Loren and Dear Jimmy as bonus tracks. It could be my imagination, but I think the songs also sound much better than on the original release. 'Under Your Touch', 'Dial My Number' and 'Synchronised' sound a lot crisper.

Thanks. We did remaster the tracks for this one.

Why the frick was it taken off streaming?!

Amazing but I can't help finding it a little annoying that it has 157m (!) YouTube streams, but Freedom of the Night doesn't even have 1 million yet and didn't chart anywhere. What's someone got to do capitalise off something like this and have a proper comeback in 2024, jeez... so hard to get people interested in the artist and not just the single song that's gone viral.

People will like a song and add it to their playlist and that's it. That's how streaming works.
I know someone who gets mad if the remastered versions of songs aren't the main ones on streaming ("How will people discover the new masters?!?!?!). It's like.... babes, normal people don't care about things like that. Speaking of myself - a music fan, I don't deep dive into every artist I've ever liked a single by, it's a bit strange to assume the general public does.

That kind of residual streaming does happen but it is very difficult to observe. It doesn't impact the top popular songs or the streaming totals nearly as much as playlists do.

I think the general public sees songs first and then artists - I do hope the rest of the Read My Lips singles have picked up at least a little bit of streaming through Murder On The Dancefloor going viral.
As overdone as it is, she's very smart to keep Lady (Hear Me Tonight) attached to Groovejet as the two songs probably get lumped in together in the general public's minds and are somewhat similar.

I was aware of "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)" first and when "Groovejet" gained momentum enough to become talked about, I hadn't heard it yet and for some reason thought it was "Lady..." that was the song and that there was a new version Sophie was singing on. For about two or three weeks until I saw the video and realised I had mixed up the two songs.
