Over the last few years it's become more and more apparent to me how the Spanish pop girls have been absolutely killing left and right on a regular basis, you could say perhaps even surpassing their Anglophone peers, and this rate is a celebration of exactly that. The rate is opening now for two reasons - firstly, because we're about one third of the way through the decade, a perfect time to go over what the girls released in the 20s so far (as only songs released between 2020 and 2023 are included), and secondly because we're at the start of Summer, and this is a super fun, breezy song list, perfect for the season! The rate features a selection of songs by a mix of big and mid-sized pop girls, exciting up and comers, slightly more alt-leaning legends, Eurovision-adjacent queens, and even a couple rappers for good measure, plus a few other names that fall somewhere somewhere in between those descriptions, hailing from Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico (and an even wider variety of places when consider the many features): AITANA, ANA MENA, BAD GYAL, BELÉN AGUILERA, CHANEL, DANNA PAOLA, EMILIA, JAVIERA MENA, KALI UCHIS, KAROL G, LALI, LOLA INDIGO, MARIA BECERRA, NATTI NATASHA, PTAZETA, ROSALÍA, TINI and VILLANO ANTILLANO, adding up to a total of eighteen main artists (each represented by three songs), plus six extras, AITANA, ISABELLA LOVESTORY, SNOW THA PRODUCT, SOFÍA REYES, TOKISCHA and VICCO (represented by one song each), with brings the song list to a nice, round, and not overly long sixty [UPDATE: make that sixty-six, as BECKY G and NATHY PELUSO are now also both part of the rate as bonus artists]. You can expect a variety of sounds - mainly pop anthems, crisp electronics and club bangers (this is PJ after all), but also some reggaeton, dembow, R&B, trap, hip-hop and more thrown in the mix. It's a varied song list, but one that was curated to appeal to any PJ user, regardless of how familiar they are with Spanish music, so please give it a shot even if it's not something you usually listen to or aren't familiar with most of these artists, because discoveries await! And with the introduction out of the way, <Chanel voice> let's go!
