I would never actively play Stop and if it came on, I'd more than likely skip it because it's been so overplayed over the years. I do, however, rediscover how good Too Much is probably twice a year and have it (and any other versions) on repeat for a while.
Regarding UK sales, here are the most recent ones that were shared (in green)! I've also made some estimations.
Please take the estimations with a pinch of salt! I try and work it out based on the two most recent total sales figures of each single, to determine their average sales per week. Then I add those weekly sales to the most recent total, to work out the sales they could theoretically be on by now. However their streaming could pick up or slow down, so it's impossible to work things out too accurately.
2 Become 1 1,395,000 (2xPlatinum) [August 2022]
1,498,000 [2025 estimate]
Spice Up Your Life 1,200,000 (2xPlatinum) [December 2022]
1,306,000 [2025 estimate] It could be higher than this, because it was boosted by Barbie (the film) in 2023.
Say You'll Be There 1,200,000 (2xPlatinum) [June 2023]
1,264,000 [2025 estimate] However it's doing a lot better on Spotify recently than it was between its last two sales updates. Perhaps it's nearer 1.3m!
Goodbye 977,000 (Platinum) [December 2022]
1,006,000 [2025 estimate] Aside from a temporary boost at Christmas time, sadly this is one of their worst performing singles on streaming.
Mama/Who Do You Think You Are 914,500 (Platinum) [August 2022]
1,002,000 [2025 estimate]
Stop 776,000 (Platinum) [March 2023]
910,000 [2025 estimate] It's crazy how much streaming has turned things around for Stop - it's gone from stalling at around 335,000 sales in the physical era (selling about half of Too Much), to it now potentially being the second best selling single from Spiceworld!
Too Much 756,000 (Platinum) [August 2022]
783,000 [2025 estimate]
Holler/Let Love Lead the Way 322,000 (Silver) [August 2022]
344,000 [2025 estimate] Can this go viral, please? Its crawl to Gold is painful, to me x
Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) 59,636 [November 2020]
66,000 [2025 estimate]
---------------------
I'd love for there to be another official update, but it's been a while since Official Charts Company shared anything. It would be great to have confirmation that Goodbye and Mama/Who Do You Think You Are have actually passed 1 million.
Interestingly, Wannabe is likely no longer the best selling girl group single in the UK (with streaming taken into account). TLC - No Scrubs does considerably better numbers than it and could have overtaken around spring 2024. Little Mix - Shout Out to My Ex was also hot on Wannabe's heels, but it seems that has slowed down a bit to now be selling at a similar pace to Wannabe. We'll definitely see No Scrubs going 5xPlatinum (3,000,000) before Wannabe does.

I see your point and completely understand but I’m the complete opposite: ‘Stop’ is one of my go to Spice Girl tracks, along with ‘Holler’, ‘Never Give Up’ and ‘If You Wanna Have Some Fun’, whereas I don’t actively seek out ‘Too Much’, ‘Two Become One’ or ‘Goodbye’. Yet, if they come on, then the diva in me would be unleashed, and I would belt them out for all it’s worth.
What’s great about their catalogue is that they truly have a mix of 4-5 songs that work so perfectly together and appeal to various people: the party people, the ballad divas and the R&B-lite heads, something for everyone.
Do we think If U Can't Dance would have worked as a single? Say there was a bit more time between Who Do You Think You Are/Mama's release and Spiceworld the Movie/Spice Up Your Life kicking off.
There's no doubt it's an incredible track. I love the urban, clubby vibe - it goes so hard with those beats and they completely pull it off.
It's also a stunning closer to the album and the live version goes all the way off. But I wonder if it would have done well as a single in its own right? Bearing in mind that, at this time, anything less than a #1 would have been seen as a failure.
Love Thing was definitely single-worthy (and one of the first ever songs to truly rock my world), but I think it was an either/or between that or Wannabe - as per the debate between them and Virgin at the outset. And obviously they made the right choice.
All five singles were the right choice from their debut and in the right order. If they wanted to push for a sixth, then as mentioned above, ‘Love Thing’ would have made a great choice.
However that would have led to 6 singles of a ten track LP and probably wouldn’t have got the returns they wanted. They were right to move on, but let’s not deny there are so many amazingly strong songs on their debut.
