Spider-Man (including Madame Web, Kraven, Venom, Spider-Verse)

I can’t wait to see this. In IMAX.

It’s giving me vibes of Catwoman. Camp, what were they thinking, hilarious, unintentional laughs, cheesy, quotable.

Which I find 99% more entertaining and memorable than most of what superhero films have become.

You know it's real bad when even the early social reactions (which are normally biased and positive) were absolutely ripping this thing apart.

The full review embargo has lifted now and it's a bloodbath. Genuinely wonder if this is coming for a legendary 0% on RT.

I know some of you hate her, but the opening of Grace's review made me chuckle. "I've seen some bad movies, but this is one of the worst. It's just not releasable". EEEK.

I'm seeing multiple reviews mention how the line readings are strangely stilted, like almost all of them have been dubbed in post. Some of them even sound auto-tuned/pitch corrected to try to fix them. What the fuck??

Now that it's clear how awful it is, it would explain why Sony removed all links to the Spider-Verse and left this on its own, so it can be quietly forgotten about.

Apparently, we've seen all the footage there is of the Spider-Women in their costumes. There's basically nothing more to see. There's also no end credit scenes making this the least connected to the source material of any of the other Sony/Marvel movies. The characters are not at all comic accurate, and it's all in name only, and they've completely culled the baby Peter story. The Parkers are small background characters with no major plot point.

If Grace Randolph claims it’s the worst film she’s ever seen, that only adds to my excitement, as she also said that about Hereditary.

As does this (fresh) review:

“A clunky, goofy, mess. However, there’s an ultimate joy in this ham-fisted adventure. Unintentionally hilarious dialog, corny villain, cringeworthy moments, lazy Easter eggs, a superb ensemble of cheesy performances lead to an ironically enjoyable romp.”

Yeah to be fair, I usually don't align with her taste when it comes to reviews. She didn't quite say it was the worst ever, and I think she wanted to like it, just because she likes the source material. I did laugh at her trying to figure out if Dakota and Sydney can actually act though, as their delivery is so wooden here, but then acknowledging that Dakota's deadpan delivery does actually give her decent comedic chops.

I can never forgive her for hating Hereditary though.

Dakota bringing the MCU down from within so adult dramas can reign once again like the 90s heyday, that’s my girl.
Jokes on you, this is all SSU and Sony doesn’t seem to be able to get embarrassed enough by their own bad films to keep them from making more of them.

From what I understand now, this was actually meant to be set in the 90s and then they had to change it but all the technology was dated so they had to compromise for the early 2000s and AR/dub/greenscreen in a bunch of references? A mess.

I feel like all that will happen is no more female lead MCU films in the future, especially with The Marvels underperforming.

Yeah, I'm seeing lots of complaints they've gone hard on product placement.
