Spider-Man (including Madame Web, Kraven, Venom, Spider-Verse)

I honestly really enjoyed this. I thought it was a lot of fun and yeah while not being the best superhero movie, I don't get why people are tearing it apart so much? The plot was fairly easy to follow and makes sense, the characters are all likeable and have a fun dynamic, and I think acting wise the main 4 are all great, especially Dakota. This was really entertaining and honestly kept me tense and invested throughout the whole film. Yeah, the villainwas poorly ADR'd and weirdly acted because of that but I do think it made it funnier ddd. I hadn't seen pretty much any of the press tour and the information on what the original plot was gonna be so I guess that might have made it more enjoyable for me? I don't know. But I really enjoyed this and honestly want more from these. It's infinitely better than Morbius which my best friend and I got so bored watching, we couldn't even finish it and we LOVE superhero movies. I'd also say it's better than Justice League and Batman v Superman for various reasons if we're talking superhero movies as a whole. I might even have liked it more than Venom 2, which I personally really enjoyed and had a lot of fun with. So yeah, I would love to see a sequel to this with the girls getting their powers and all four of them trying to navigate how to use them and work together with a new dynamic.

Definitely better than Batman vs Superman, that film is such a chore to work your way through.

I wouldn't even be aware of this movie if it wasn't for all the buzz around Dakota and her press tour, which may not be doing much for the film, but is certainly doing a lot to raise her profile.

The whole quote is insightful, too.

Have the last two weeks been weird? A lot has happened since I saw you playing with baby animals on set for the shoot.

Yeah. I had the LA premiere for Madame Web and then went to Mexico City. I had pneumonia and was on steroids and the nebulizer and doing all these little things, and I was really, really sick and felt horrible. I looked horrible. I was like, Ugh. And then the movie came out and it was… [Pauses.] Like, I can’t take any of it seriously at all. I dunno.

Does it bother you when people write nasty reviews?

Unfortunately, I’m not surprised that this has gone down the way it has.

Is there a reason for that?

It’s so hard to get movies made, and in these big movies that get made — and it’s even starting to happen with the little ones, which is what’s really freaking me out — decisions are being made by committees, and art does not do well when it’s made by committee. Films are made by a filmmaker and a team of artists around them. You cannot make art based on numbers and algorithms. My feeling has been for a long time that audiences are extremely smart, and executives have started to believe that they’re not. Audiences will always be able to sniff out bullsh*t. Even if films start to be made with AI, humans aren’t going to f*cking want to see those.

But it was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now. But sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it’s one thing and then as you’re making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you’re like, Wait, what? But it was a real learning experience, and of course it’s not nice to be a part of something that’s ripped to shreds, but I can’t say that I don’t understand.

I liked the first two movies, but I'm a bit ehh about the CGI.

I hope they're able to use him in Secret Wars or something - the movies aren't excellent but Tom Hardy's done a great job with Eddie Brock. It's just a shame we haven't seen him together with a Spider-Man.

He/Him
Since I've almost run out of superhero films to watch I finally sat through both Madame Web and Morbius this week.

Madame Web really was just so so so terrible. I can't believe there are people in this thread defending this film. Dakota's "acting" alone just constantly takes you out of the film. It was giving:
she is just so over everything
She found out the film wouldn't be part of the MCU and immediately stopped giving a single fuck. She is just so miscast in this.

There were just too many things wrong with it I'm not even going to bother naming them all. Honorable mentions though were the villain single-handedly getting killed by the Pepsi sign, the true hero of this film and Toxic apparently being a hit on the radio in 2003 lol.

Morbius was not as unintentionally funny to me but just utterly pointless with no substance. A perfect example of a studio wanting to make a film out of a Spider-Man villain without Spider-Man but not having anything substantial to fill it with. The fight scenes, the villain, it was giving Venom copypasta without the fun. The way it just...ended after the final fight says it all.

God help us all when Kraven is released.
