Spider-Man Thread (including Across the Spider-Verse)

That was really great. Love that Gwen and Miles got to share the spotlight. Slightly hard to fully have an opinion cause it's only part 1 very overtly but yeah. Good shit.

the few live actions cameos were a real disaster for me. Completely at odds with the artistry and gorgeous visuals and felt such a misfire for the sake of Sony brand synergy

Disagree I thought
Donald Glover looked fine as fuckkkk

I loved the new one but the sound in some scenes was so quiet. Especially Gwen's speech at the beginning. If you want a more dynamic range then go for it but tell cinemas in advance to turn up the volume.

Went to see this today. I almost never go to the cinema these days, the sensory overload of people eating their food, rustling snack packets, talking, etc is too much for me to cope with, but all worth it to see this film. I loved it. Bit of a slow start (also struggled to hear Gwen's narration), but just kept getting better and better as the film went on. Shame Issa Rae didn't have more to do with Jessica Drew.

It really is. Even though this is a Sony film, it makes me hope that Marvel takes more risks with animation. It’s the one area they have never beat DC at.
Even thought it’s a Marvel property it is crushing it’s previous box office and hanging in there with the biggest players, whilst not being a Pixar or Disney animation. Hoping it makes studios bet more on animation.

I wonder what kind of legs this will have? I feel like the reach is more limited and it might be quite front loaded but I’d love to be proved wrong.

It’s been pointed out but the 1st movie gained momentum with streaming and “Sunflower” being played EVERYWHERE. For me both where comfort food during the pandemic. I’m not surprised by these numbers.

Can’t wait to watch this tomorrow!

It’s funny because hype kind of felt a bit flat for this until literally last week. I’m so pleased with the success though.

Yeah, last week, I was sick and gave the first movie a rewatch to prepare myself for Across. I still loved it and the animation is such a breath of fresh air. Comfort food indeed.

I'm just back from Across. For a 140 minutes movie, it flew by. The animation is even better and the soundtrack is also solid. The (expected) cameos were ok. I don't mind it being a clear part one. It shows confidence and the makers clearly love the franchise.

My only criticism would be that Miles didn't really change or show growth as a character throughout this movie. I'm not sure what his motivations really are. His parents are the best though.

Some predictable things I don't wish to happen in Beyond:

- His father/mother dying. I know it's a Spider-Man staple, but it would be a cliché.
- Alternate dark Miles being a villain and then teaming up with main Miles and sacrificing himself to finish all the Spider-Verse stuff.

He/Him
Just got out of seeing a last minute screening of the new film… WOW! The amount of work that was put into this film is actually insane. Like… it makes any Disney/Pixar film look like a direct-to-vhs in comparison. It seriously upped the game and stakes from the first without losing any of the heart. I need that Art Of book to come out ASAP!

It also…
gives a reason why we haven’t seen him in any of the MCU Spider-Man films yet and allows for him to show up and introduce Miles! He did look great too! Also was a nice nod to him influencing the character.

Saw this again in IMAX, before all the screens go to Transformers takes them all so early, and it was even better the second time.

Speaking of, any chance that Spider-man might hold and stop Transformers from hitting #1 at the box office this weekend? Apparently pre-sales are bad.

Maybe? Transformers seems hype less and reviews are mixed at best. Better than Bay but nowhere near as good as Bumblebee which was more modest budget wise. that's what you get for not getting Hailegend back for SOME sequels
