I'd quickly grown attached to the "right sidebar" on the desktop app that had large album art, bios, etc., which I had just discovered recently even though it was probably there for a while. My app updated today and it's disappeared. Even though this is basically what it used to look like for ages, I miss the big artwork. It seems weird they got rid of it.

(I know I can expand the artwork in the left sidebar, but I hate that because it blocks my playlists.)

Am I really late in only today seeing this ai dj feature they've put in. It's kinda creepy it talks in between songs and follows your listening patterns. I can't decide if I like it or not

I only noticed it a few days ago. Tried twice but I really don't need an AI DJ talking to me in between tracks so doubt I'll revisit. It also pronounced Roisin Murphy really strangely.

This was me with Appleton's Fantasy last year, it did stop eventually. It even made it onto my Most Played songs of 2022, kinda against my will!

I actually really like the DJ feature. Nice mix of music I know with some new stuff mixed in and the genre changing/style of music updating every 5-6 songs keeps things interesting. I’ve found some good music through it. I wouldn’t listen to it while not at work but for a more background listening experience I enjoy it.

Spotify’s Desktop Experience Gets a Brand-New Look With Redesigned ‘Your Library’ and ‘Now Playing’ Views​

Before Spotify made its way to mobile, fans streamed all their favorite songs on Desktop. Now this experience is getting one of its biggest revamps yet, with redesigned Your Library and Now Playing views, making the Spotify Desktop experience the best way to explore, curate, listen to, and organize Spotify on a computer or web browser.

We’re keeping the main content area unchanged, so it will still be your central hub to browse, discover, and find recommended songs and podcasts. But you’ll also find a few new additions to help align our Desktop experience with the mobile app.

On the left-hand side of the app window, we’re anchoring the new Your Library so you can quickly access your saved music and podcast collections. And from initial insights we’ve seen, users have found that the new Library helps them save time, provides them with a better overview, and allows them to more easily switch between playlists.

On the right-hand side of the app, you’ll find the Now Playing view, which displays the current song or podcast you’re listening to. You can even find more information about the song and artist here, as well as information on tour dates and merch—making it easier to connect with your favorite artists and discover more about them. For select podcasts, you can even follow transcripts as you listen.

Together, the individually customizable design of these new views provides a richer experience, more context, and quicker access to personal favorites.

Wondering where the Friend Activity feed went? Don’t worry! It’s still accessible via the “friends” icon next to your profile picture in the top-right corner of the main content area.

Take full advantage of Desktop’s redesigned features with these helpful tips:​

  • Go compact: By default, you’ll see an expanded view of Your Library. But if you only want to see your playlist icons, you can simply click the “Your Library” button in the top right hand corner to collapse the library.
  • Search & filter Your Library: Previously, the only way to find playlists was through the search bar—and you had to wade through not only your own content, but results from the entire Spotify catalog. Now, when it’s expanded, our new Library design allows you to toggle through your dedicated music, podcast, and audiobook feeds and search Your Library exclusively.
  • Customize: We want this experience to fit the way you listen, which is why Your Library and Now Playing can both be resized to take up more or less of the screen.
  • Pin, drag & drop: You can move and pin the playlists in the Library, as well as drop songs into the editable listed playlists.

The new Your Library and Now Playing views will begin rolling out to all Desktop users worldwide starting today. Give it a try by launching one of our flagship playlists, like Today’s Top Hits, on Desktop or on your web browser.

I've used Spotify since it became available in the UK (before you had to pay at all!) and have always remained stuck to it despite my best efforts to move elsewhere, but I think I'm finally ready to cut the cord and head to Apple Music.

Everything I liked about Spotify - recommendations and social features, namely - are being made actively worse. Autoplay will 100% give me some payola'd song no matter what I'm listening to, a majority of playlists just cycle the same 10/20 songs in different orders, and even the AI DJ keeps giving me the same 5-song runs over and over again. The audio quality sucks balls and even though lossless isn't available through Bluetooth, the difference between Spotify and AM on my AirPods Max is night and day. They promised HiFi over two years ago and it still hasn't arrived, because they're working out how to milk consumers of more money for a product that is becoming sub-par.

I still think it's easier to make playlists with Spotify, but that's probably the only advantage it has currently. These constant, pointless UI changes instead of actual meaningful developments are so frustrating.

Completely agree. The app on both Mac and iPhone has become such a mess.

I am glad I have made the transition to Apple Music 6 months, and spent the time to rebuild my music library there. It took some effort, but it's worth it.

While the music app on Mac isn't perfect (some small bugs, navigation doesn't always makes a lot of sense, not as speedy as Spotify...), you get used to it quite fast. I do miss some Spotify playlists but it's easy to pop back there from time to time to check what's new with a free account, and then save back to your Apple Music library. (and I regularly use TuneMyMusic to transfer Spotify playlists over, like the PopJustice new music Friday one - it works like a charm).

I think the possibility of mixing personal MP3s with streaming music is incredibly useful for music lovers. I am happy to rediscover songs that were taking dust on my iTunes for years while I was using Spotify.

I'm sad in a way because I think Spotify was amazing for so many years - but unfortunately, I think the music streaming business is only viable for companies that can fund it with other things (like Apple, Google, Amazon...). As a standalone business, it is very difficult to be profitable so Spotify will never stop tweaking their product and interface until it makes them enough money to survive - which often doesn't bode well for the user experience!

Currently i have 3 months on my free Apple Music subscription and honestly, i feel like it is still too buggy and slow. I also want to make the switch to AM completely but that (along with losing the algorithm and accessibility to podcasts) always stops me.

Also the interface on Spotify is too smooth and easy to navigate. I'm an old man.

Ive tried to make the move away from Spotify too. Whilst it’s not perfect I do think it’s the best out there.

This is true and i really enjoy the radio aspect of it. I just hope it becomes a lot smoother to use and faster to navigate. I’m hopeful for the iOS 17 update.

Also love Dolby atmos feature for the most part. It really elevated some albums (Random Access Memories, Daddy’s Home etc) for me.
