Spotify

The sound quality on Apple Music (not even Lossless just the regular version) is miles better than Spotify.

This is true and i really enjoy the radio aspect of it. I just hope it becomes a lot smoother to use and faster to navigate. I’m hopeful for the iOS 17 update.

Also love Dolby atmos feature for the most part. It really elevated some albums (Random Access Memories, Daddy’s Home etc) for me.

Speaking of - have you seen the new Now Playing screen on Apple Music in iOS 17? That alongside with collaborative playlists and crossfade are welcome improvements for me!

People have also said Dolby Atmos has seen a significant improvement with the beta, but enabling crossfade made my Music settings crash and, as I had Atmos turned off, I've not been able to turn it on and try nn

I guess bugs are to be expected from a first developer beta but aside from that, it's definitely on the up!

Yup, I saw it on the Apple Music Reddit and honestly it looks so good.

Spotify just feels like the place to stay. Playlists and charts feel more encompassing, personalized mixes for any and every occasion, the social component being perfect for sharing playlists and blends. I also like the canvases and artist profiles with actual streaming numbers. Podcasts being on the same app is a win.

Apple Music is always two steps behind them, and the only thing I'm missing are Beats 1 interviews.

Does anyone have any decent early 00s/2010s playlists they wouldn't mind sharing?

I really want some new ones for my walks, would be greatly appreciated!

I've been Spotify's bitch for so long, I thought I would never make the jump, but I did it over the weekend. I'd bought a new soundbar for the living room and thought I'd give it a try to see the difference and wow. Spotify's sound quality is utter garbage. Couldn't believe the difference when I did my Apple Music trial, so I took the plunge.

Downside is that I hate iTunes with a passion, so I'll miss the desktop app, but I can cope.

Apple Music has a beta version if you are using Windows 11. People are saying it still needs a lot of work but apparently it feels better than itunes.

Never used it though dd. I still can not quit Spotify. Apple Music is great and i want to commit fully but it feels so slow and laggy. Despite having good to great connection and having iPhone 13, Songs spend minutes to finally start playing when i am listening from anywhere other than the library dd.

The one thing I do wish you could do with Spotify though (that you can with iTunes) is have downloaded files alongside the ones you can stream. Sometimes I want a song I've got downloaded on my phone that may be unreleased or not on streaming on one of my playlists, but it's not possible.

You can have that, with the local files stuff. But it's a big hassle.

Has anyone ever seen a playlist with sort of notes appearing through the list? Like for example I know I've seen an Eurovision-related one that listed the country before each song. I've been trying to find out how this works exactly, but I've had zero luck, and in fact I'm pretty convinced it's not actually a feature, at least in the current version of Spotify, but I did see it in at least a couple playlists over the years, so what's up with that? One possibility I guess is that the "notes" were actually greyed out local files, but I'm not sure that'd even work.

It is possible. That's been a feature for years on premium. It used to be pretty easy to do unless they changed it?

The trick for me that always makes it work is to use an Apple brand lightning to USB cable when I’m syncing from my laptop. The Wi-Fi process is usually finicky.

They changed how the local files thing worked on Spotify and it's rubbish now. All my downloaded music is on my PC and I had it added to Spotify as local files and it played on all my playlists, no matter which device I was using, as long as I'd synced the playlists.

Then they changed it so that the local files you were playing had to be on the device you were playing them on. So whenever I was out driving, my playlists would skip all the local files, as they were not on my iPhone.

That might have changed again and there might have been other ways around it, but I found it really irritating, when it worked perfectly for years.

That's interesting. I've not moved onto W11 yet, but at least they're working on something separate from iTunes.
