Square Enix - FFXIV: Dawntrail

I can't agree the voice acting is not as good as in FF16, I think the main cast is great, I am nearing the end and nobody felt off so far. Remake had a lot of padding but what they added in Rebirth enhances the story more. Overall, I simply can't compare Rebirth and FF16, they are just too different.
Rebirth’s voice acting is great. Don’t get me wrong. But FFXVI was just next level. The drama of it!

I managed to beat that fight after all, Aerith's Planet Protection was the key.

Any tips on Nightmare QB? Everything is going ok until the 5th round. I thought maybe I should give it my best until that round so the opponent catch my points in the last round but not sure if I can pull that off.

Yeah I got it on a combo of scoring the most points possible in the first 4 rounds (cards with a 10 point bonus for winning the lane are a must) and saving the most cards possible for round 5 to at least control the bleeding.

Ok rant incoming, but I purchased X/X-2 remaster for Switch, but I find it very difficult to enjoy the game because in my memory, there are certain items you HAVE to get on your first run, otherwise they're lost forever. But I can't remember their exact locations.

I really wanted to have a run-through without a guide, but I've already found myself researching the locations of the Celestial Weapons / Crests / Sigils because I'm in Baaj Temple right now (pre-game, I'd almost say, since it's only Tidus and I'm not even on Besaid Island yet) and I'm like, panicking because I haven't found this important key-item yet that I've sort of memory-locked in my mind to be there. But I think I'm getting my memories mixed up.

I need a break ddd

Just keep this short list in mind and you won't permanently miss anything. Half the stuff listed is actually pretty irrelevant, the main thing to watch out for are a few of the Al Bhed primers in areas you can't revisit. The only other thing to keep in mind is some things will later be blocked by Dark Aeons, so you probably want to get them the first time you visit places, like the second Valefor overdrive from Besaid. Also a good idea to get the cloister treasures the first time around, and also unlock the Jecht shot when you get the opportunity to, but I think that's it. X-2 is like 100 times worse in terms of missable stuff though, you really need a guide for that one ff

Thank you!! This helps a bunch.

Yeah that might be the case, that I probably remember those "guarded by dark Aeons" items as missable items. And yeah, X-2 is insane for that. I have the Piggyback Guides for both X and X-2 and used to read those religiously during gameplay. I remembered a lot but especially for X-2, it's impossible to remember everything.

I am nearing the end of ch. 13.

Padding or not, I am blown away by the Temple of the Ancients, it is beyond my expectations. It is interesting to watch Cloud closely slowly but surely falling further and further into madness. You just know that he would at least smirk or give high five after that badass combo with Tifa (loved that boss fight) but no, he is just cold to everyone. Like, Aerith gives a touching speech about life and death after they all went through traumatic experiences and he goes "are you finished" - damn boy!

Speaking of, trials are amazing. It was so sad seeing Barret reliving wife's death and Aerith, god they really know how to hit you in the feels - her crying going back to Ifalna and her theme playing, ugh! By the way, it was a nice moment between Aerith and Tseng.

Interesting article about the current state of SE with all the recent cancellations. I absolutely love so many of their "mid-tier" games, it's such a shame we're likely to get much less of that in the future. At the same time it's easy to see the current approach of churning out games with little to no promotion likely wasn't quite working. Like did anyone actually play, say, The DioField Chronicle? Though I would say a simple solution would have been to, well, promote them more nn. Still, I really hope it's not going to be AAA games only from now on, especially considering how a fair share of those end up being the biggest bombs anyway (does anyone remember Left Alive...), whereas stuff like the HD-2D titles are much less expensive to develop and tend to do pretty well. Hopefully at least stuff we have actually heard of like DQ3 HD-2D, the new Bravely Default or the FF9 remake is all still happening.

I finished the game.

Considering how Remake ended, I was prepared for the ending madness. As much as this one is as crazy, I will give it a pass since we still need the grand finale which is Part 3, that is always the case with the second installment of any trilogy. However, I will be pissed off if they don't end it properly, I don't want any loose ends.

In any case, they really weren't lying when they said the game will follow the OG. Everything they added in was for the better and I didn't feel it had that much padding like the Remake, its just that the finale went in crazy land which, again, I was mentally preparing myself for.

The famous death scene.. .the thing is, no matter what they did, I think it would never meet the fans expectations. However, I don't think the aftermath is much different. People say, oh they mourn a little and then we move on. Well, yeah, the same thing happened in the OG, isn't the running gag "Aerith is dead but let's go snowboarding woohoo!". I think it had enough impact.

About Aerith's fate... I think she is definitely dead in our world, I think the proof is seeing her bloody from Tifa's POV, also everyone is mourning her death afterwards etc.

As for Cloud, he is
1) either totally out of his mind, he doesn't want to accept the truth so he sees her and is baffled by others' reactions.
2) he sees her saved in another world or heck
3) Could be both.

One thing is for sure, Cloud is slowly but surely spiraling throughout the game and the fact that he hid black materia will be even more dangerous.

I frankly can't imagine that SE would skip another iconic scene of Aerith's sendoff at the lake, we were even teased about it in the Remake. I think and hope we will see this in Part 3 when Cloud gets well, when he becomes the real Cloud.

Max Dood is speculating Aerith could also be Jenova messing with Cloud's head. I think he is unfairly attacked by some as we do know Jenova is a shapeshifter, that theory is not that crazy.

Call me a softie but if Aerith is alive in another world, I would love to see her reunion with Zack. He would literally do anything for her, he really loves her.

In any case, I really feel bad for Tifa, you can see how devastated she is. Not only has she lost 2 great friends in what, 10 days, but now she sees Cloud is definitely not ok. She has a lot of insecurities that are even more fleshed out in the Rebirth so her being a leader will be challenging for her in the last game.

Also, can I just say, with all the gushing on Twitter how romantic Aerith's and Cloud's last date is - did those people actually play the game? It's sad and foreshadowing what will happen. Literally nothing they do comes out right while Aerith is desperately trying to have some fun and wants to reassure Cloud everything will be ok. You can't simply erase Zack, even Aerith says in the end she is not sure how she likes Cloud.

Still not sure what is Sephiroth's goal, merging worlds but why? Also, what is up with Glenn? Was Jenova tricking Rufus the entire time? I bet Wutai will have a major part in the last game.

This is the tricky part of every 2nd installment. It sets the stage for the finale so you have to wait before making final decision. I am looking forward to see the end.

My Aerith date was perfect.

That Gold Saucer Rufus fight was near impossible though Jesus. I find the one-on-one boss battles almost impossible sometimes, just waiting for the gauge to fill up.
Yeah they usually involve a lot of blocking/countering which I am not great at. The key is usually figuring out the right attacks at the right moments, and lots of patience.

Is there two different versions of the Aerith date or something cause the chemistry is non-existent on the one I watched? Maybe I was just pissed I didn't end up with the Barret date...
Everyone has a normal and intimate date depending on if you’ve maxed out the friendship circle thing.

I think that is always the point between the two, Aerith grabs Cloud by the hand and he follows reluctantly while she teases him. I mean, he actually calls her mean in Costa del Sol and she apologizes because she knows she went too far.

The main thing about their Gold Saucer date is exactly what it was in the OG, about

Aerith trying to find the real Cloud, she knows something is off with him mentally. Plus, its interesting that in both hers and Tifa's date Cloud asks wether the two of them talked about Zack so that is definitely on Cloud's mind. Even more interesting, both lie to him saying they didn't talk yet. It would be nice to see that flashback in full, hopefully Tifa thinks about it in Part 3.

Also, not saying this is the case, but now that he remembers Zack, I find it even more natural Cloud would be reluctant to date Aerith, he remembers Zack was head over heels in love with her.

By the way, that part was in Niblehelm was great, as well as both Cloud and Tifa dealing with their trauma - Tifa trying to change the subject when she noticed Clud repeating Sephiroth's words and later Cloud calming Tifa when she had panic attack in the reactor.

Whether someone sees it romantic or not, regardless Rebith showed great development between the two.

I've been getting back into Star Ocean: The Second Story R. The revamped combat is so good and it's so gorgeous to look at. I just wish the sprites looked a bit better, but everything else makes up for them. The water in this game is something else (I'm a sucker for nice looking water in games).

The difficulty spikes are annoying though. I've had to level grind and brute force my way through many times.
