Square Enix - FFXIV: Dawntrail

Crisis Core has been added to PlayStation Plus, for anyone who held off getting it previously.

I do want to play it, but I'm still a little burnt out from Rebirth so hopefully it's around for a while.

Although I like Final Fantasy XVI better than Rebirth, one thing the latter unquestionably does better is calibrate the difficulty so that the battle system's depth is immediately obvious. I find the game fucking hard whereas XVI was the type of game that only people who don't play action games would really struggle with.

After enjoying the FFVII Remake immensely last year I’m playing the DLC with Yuffie before starting Rebirth. And wow, I’m enjoying the new and refined combat system so much. I feel like they really nailed action combat with this? For all the criticism they get for turning to action RPG and abandoning turn-based, I feel like they’ve done a great job with it.

I love turn-based combat dearly, but I kind of feel like they’ve done the right decision in turning this game into an action RPG. And don’t drag me, I still haven’t played the original (which I intend to do) but maybe that’s why I’m not as harsh a critic towards the Remake as others. I know that they’ve changed up the story, and I understand that is something that everyone won’t like. But from a perspective of a newer player of the franchise, I’ve fallen so much in love with the world of FFVII. I can’t wait to dive into Rebirth.

FF9's best Boss getting THREE (Well two since Roses of may is just a piano version of The Sword of Doubt) iconic songs dedicated to her? Ms Nobuo snapped for these and it's no less than Beatrix deserves.

I like Kingdom Hearts 2 about as much as the first. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. The first Kingdom Hearts has better level design, a lot more magic to it, and an overall stronger Disney side but Kingdom Hearts 2 feels much better to play and has a more interesting overarching story. It kind of ends in a draw for me. I can stand the mini-games in 2 though. They're lazy and jarring. That mini-game in the second part of Halloween Town where you have to shoot presents into boxes? What were they thinking?

Honestly, mandatory mini-games in RPGs is a concept that needs to fuck off for good.

I’ve only just got round to playing XVI, I’ve put off playing it for a while after Rebirth as I didn’t want to burn myself out on Final Fantasy.

I’m not very far into it but the scene with Clive chained up and completely naked, gay rights!

I'm still on the Temple of Ancients, I need to finish Rebirth.

All this talk of IX, I need that remake in my life, easily my favourite game of all time.

A friend who has seen (played?) some of IX Remake said the game said is similar in style to the Memoria project which I'd be happy enough with, as a change of pace from the harder feeling VII Remake. I assume we won't get the whole game again, but honestly, as mentioned disc one is just so perfect. If we got everything on there as a fully fleshed out PS5 game and nothing else, I'd still I feel like I'd be fully satisfied.

So many amazing moments in that first disc, arriving at the Evil Forest and finally being able to control your team, arriving at Lindblum, leaving Lindblum.

As long as I hear this on the remake.

I'm assuming we're getting the whole game at once, but obviously the scale/budget won't be anywhere close to the FF7 remake's (which is perfectly fine, IX is not really the type of game that needs to be transformed into a cinematic AAA blockbuster).

IX genuinely just needs a bit of a clean up, whereas VII and VIII needed work. Hopefully they have the original artworks for the backgrounds so they're not so compressed, and really, that's all that's required?

VIII remake is probably not going to happen TBH. I just don't think there's enough love for it. It doesn't have the charismatic cast that VII and IX do. Easily one of the worst main party casts in the series.

Yeah I believe the leaks said that it wouldn’t be split up into multiple games like VII. I’m anticipating something like the Trials of Mana remake where it’s still remade from the ground up but without aiming for the photorealistic look of the VII remakes/XVI. I don’t think it’s supposed to be another remaster like VIII.
