Square Enix

Congrats! I'm currently at 98%, only eight quests left (most of which involve beating (Feral) Chaos), so hopefully should hit 100% soon too, close to getting all characters to level 99 as well. I'm curious, did you ever have to rely on Mimic to beat any of the quests? I see it's supposedly very powerful but I've not been using it at all since it seems both a bit cheap and also a pain to set up properly.

I'd love to get some DLC characters too, but I think it seems unlikely given only FF characters are in the game and the DLC is all songs from other series, unless the characters are released separately. At least the World of Final Fantasy and Stranger In Paradise City protagonists should have been added, since there are songs from both in the game. But Wakka, Lulu and Kimahri are the biggest omissions for me.
There were indeed a few enemies that did require a Mimic setup for me to clear properly. I don't think it's too cheap considering the setup required to pull it off, though. One of the last ones I did (one of the Feral Chaos') involved having Bartz mimic Spiritus' unique ability. If you set up the rest of the party to be boss nukes (or Yuna Grand Summoning at the beginning to clear out an early wave) you should be able to guarantee that Bartz mimics that and then boosts Shantotto's damage 3.4 times without too much luck.

Some other Mimic builds can get a bit meme-y, and you can most likely brute force most quests instead at a certain point by just running an Ace/Aphmau/Lightning #2/Spritus (+/- Shantotto somewhere in there) party once you start gaining Star Levels and blowing your stat boosters.

The dumbest party I had to build was to beat Cloud of Darkness and involved using Guy's unique, but I had to purposefully not get criticals for about 90 notes so it would trigger at the right time.

And yeah, that was exactly what I was getting at re: DLC. I think there are still some omissions in existing Final Fantasy songs (and full versions of ones already represented), and I wouldn't be surprised if we do get some paid DLC in the form of a second season pass to add some of those, FF16 music, and some missing characters.

I beat the last few Theatrhythm missions a few days ago, and Mimic definitely was a big help in those hardest ones, the damage boost it can provide is really something. Tyro, who I didn't really think was anything special for most of the game, turned out to be a key element, betwen Mimicking Spiritus's Ability and his own unique ability Fantasy Unbound he can boost magic teams massively, and then the second Mimic usually copying a high damage spell halfway through a stage often really comes in handy too. I fount that having a high damage ability guaranteed to activate towards the end of a course can really make a difference too (whether you're facing a boss or a regular enemy), and Guy's unique ability or Yuna using Meltdown are perfect for that.

After a lot of experimentation, I ended up settling with these five as my "final" teams:

Boss busters (magical): Terra, Tyro, Yuna, Spiritus
Fire magic spam: Vivi, Ace, Maria, Aphmau
Treasure hunters: Zidane, Fran, Rikku, Balthier
Physical ability spam: Lightning #2, Cloud #2, Faris, Vaan
Boss busters (physical): Garland, Noctis, Aranea, Guy

Between the five, they can take care of most Endless World missions. Even though I'm "done" with the game I definitely think I'll continue playing it for a good while, between Endless World, the daily songs, slowly filling the Collectacard collection and also all the upcoming DLC songs.

FFX-2 is one of the most iconic games of all time and anyone who disagrees is homophobic. The girls, the fashion, the music, the way the story mixes high campery with some genuinely heartfelt moments, the combat, getting to revisit Spira... whew.

It's a shame SE just doesn't take risks like this with FF like this anymore. As divisive as it is, I think Lightning Returns (which actually has a lot in common with X-2) was the last time a FF game actually felt daring and unique, even if it wasn't for everyone. Stuff like XV, Stranger in Paradise City and (from what we've seen) XVI is just so painfully safe and vanilla when compared to these older titles, it's a bit sad.

i will say...uh, based on story stuff I've seen and the script...Stranger in Paradise sounds insane.

Oh I meant more in terms of presentation, since at least at first glance the vibe is a bit "generic masc action game released ten-fifteen years ago". I still intend to give it a shot eventually though, I can see myself actually enjoying it when I do (and I just realised I was getting the game's name wrong oop).

So some The World Ends You songs were added to Theatrhythm. Seeing classic FF characters fighting classic FF monsters... in the streets of Tokyo... soundtracked by an Incubus soundalike

I’ve just now realised NEO: The World Ends With You is being added to PS Plus next week, is it as amazing (imo) as the first game?

As a massive stan of the first game... I've been in Week 1, Day 5 of NEO for months. It hasn't gripped me so I keep forgetting about it.

I don't know if it gets better later on but I imagine it'll be hard for it to live up to the TWEWY.

I haven't actually played either myself, they do look kinda interesting but something about them just doesn't quite grab me for some reason.

By the way, has anyone played Various Daylife? It got fairly meh reviews but I have to admit the whole "cozy life-sim-esque, kinda experimental JRPG to be played in short bursts" thing seems pretty appealing to me, especially when it was made by the same team as the Bravely, Octopath and Triangle games, all of which I love. Debating whether it's worth picking it up on sale nn

I mean, I get it. I got the original for the PS2, then the PS3 remaster and the PS4 remaster a few years later, but it's still tempting to get it on the Switch to be able to play it in handheld mode, which also applies to the other PS1/2 Final Fantasies. I haven't actually done it though, it does feel like a waste of money nn
