St. Vincent - Masseduction

There's a new soundtrack song. It's a very different vibe for her but I like the rawness of her vocals.

Is it bad that I don't want her to go back to Jack? I adore Masseduction and more or less all of Jack's work, but I just feel like she is beyond him at this point.

Jack is the type of collaborator who can really take on the vision of the artist he’s working with, for better or worse. If her vision is clear, then she’ll be able to make the most of both of their abilities.

My god that article has me EXCITED! St Vincent filtering Stevie Wonder and Sly and the Family Stone!? A rebuke of building a facade and bringing it back down. She really nailed her entire aesthetic with Masseduction so I'm confident whatever this next step is, she'll stick the landing

She really excels at everything but I'm really looking forward to seeing her sound and aesthetic pulled back. Teenage Talk was a really great and understated track and would be a great blueprint. I do need her to step into Pop Star Mode temporarily to do a duet and performance with Dua for Future Nostalgia Side B where they give us part two of their Grammy performance.

I forgot how fun of a listen Masseduction is front-to-back. It's quick, varied, creative, and sharp all the way through. (Smoking Section is a bit of a downer to end the album on, but that's my only minor complaint.) Who can deny Pills, Sugarboy, Happy Birthday Johnny, New York, Young Lover, Slow Disco?

Honestly, I think I may have overlooked the album when it was released, or had some slight fatigue from the hyper-neon-plastic campaign she had going for it (I tuned out a few months after the album was released), because now I'm enjoying the album more than ever. I'm pretty sure Daddy's Home will be my favorite from her because everything about it is right up my alley and then some, but she just keeps on getting better for me.

It's funny you wrote this comment because I re-visited the album yesterday as well and I totally agree. I do worry that it's given me high hopes for the new album when I feel like the lead single is good but not great.
