Steps - General Discussion

I guess the idea that they'll try to rush it out for Christmas is likely.

It only seems rushed to us but obviously there has been a lot going on behind the scenes we weren't privy to and this has in some form at least been part of the masterplan all along. Perhaps with how successful they have been they maybe had originally planned to take a break after Christmas last year but the opportunity of the summer shows came up and they took that which means a 9 month gap for Claire has turned into a 6 week summer holiday and then back at it.

I think an October/November release is potentially a wise move especially if chart position is largely irrelevant. Yes, there is a lot of (more "popular") competition out there album-wise at Christmas but people (ie casuals) are more open to spending money even on albums at Christmas. Point being that more competition means a likely much poorer chart position but this will be offset by potentially a lot more sales in the lucrative Christmas Q4 than getting a Top 20 in February with 5,678 sales (see what I did there). So, 14,000 sales and a chart position of 35 is probably a better aim.

Also, in some ways for this project Claire is starting from scratch so has an opportunity (especially if the music is good) to win over some new casuals as she is not constrained to the Steps brand, image or even style of music.

I'm excited!

That Beautiful Battlefield is giving me fanmade mix from 2002 found on Russian bootlegs feels. It’s beyond awful. Gordon should be ashamed.
Crikey, there was me thinking my initial comment on it was harsh...!
That said we've had some great mixes come out of this era... one dud isn't the end of the world.

Well I can tell what I won’t be listening to ever again.

No really, they’re not terrible mixes...I just don’t like remixes in general - especially not with a group like Steps who get it right the first time 99 percent of the time. No remixes are necessary.

They're a couple of remixes that surpass the originals for me. Ie Story Of A Heart 7th Heaven... Neon Blue Adam Turner Mix.

The 4 new remixes on the singles collection You Make Me Whole (Porl Young Remix)
Firefly (Ste Ingram Remix) are just just plain bad, Space Between Us (Club Junkies Remix) is really good bug Beautiful Battlefrield (Gordon Pogoda Dance Remix) is in a another league of its own it’s so bad it’s kinda good if you get me.

they/she
I really like the Firefly remix honestly. The You Make Me Whole mix works better as the club mix than the radio mix, but it's a song that almost sounded like a remix already, so it doesn't lend itself to remixing as well as some other tracks.

This boxset is fantastic though and I'm so glad they actually did this. I'm sure some would say they've been milking their fanbase (the individual signed editions was a bit of a stretch after the original signed edition) but when the content is this good, I'm happy being milked all they want.

My response would be there giving the fans what they want hence I’m hoping the next and future steps era’s are copy and paste of the gears era.

Album, Deluxe edition, music videos, touring, remixes, singles releases for collectors, DVD & Blu-rays.

If I had to knit pick is they stopped releasing official instrumentals after love’s for a gold on my heart, karaoke doesn’t count I would love thoose to make extended 12” versions

I thought exactly this earlier - two CDs, 5 individual editions, two vinyls, the digital EPs, a singles boxset, the various Pledge Music & commercial versions of the Party On The Dancefloor tour... but how refreshing that for once, a band are actually listening to what the fans want. This has been a true "era".
