Steps - General Discussion

Does the revisited mixes include new vocal recordings? The blended backing vocal sound was so annoying back in the day. I love it when they use all their full vocals/harmonies in the mix.
No, apart from Claire’s “about us” mega-note at the end of One For Sorrow, which I’m assuming would’ve been recorded during vocal rehearsals for Party on the Dancefloor.

He could have also maybe used stuff from the sessions from Claire's solo version of One For Sorrow for that too?

Change 'do' to 'get'!

They're a pipe dream, sadly.

If they are to release some of them, they may be not reluctant to release more.

The digital extended editions of Future 1 and 2 contain a lot of alternative versions (acoustic, karaoke, remixes, and even a diffèrent version of Something In Your Eyes).

We’re lucky we got those three. I think we’ll get some digital stuff but I sincerely doubt we’ll get more Steve mixes.

What I’m wondering, since he basically has to redo the videos from the source material shot by shot… does that mean he had to make the cuts between good and bad Steps again? Do the green screen effect again?
Manually add the effects in You’ll Be Sorry?? Or are the reels he’s working with not just the raw footage?

I think it's only the David Amphlett directed videos he's got the original reels for:

One For Sorrow
Heartbeat
Tragedy
Better Best Forgotten
Say You'll Be Mine
Stomp
It's The Way You Make Me Feel

Unless they're planning to launch The Runner separately with a mix package, we know there's a 7th Heaven Club Mix of that ready to go which makes me think they'll do a digital deluxe. Another digital deluxe option is bundle the HD videos and/or TOTP performances?

I think they may also have a signed standard edition up their sleeve for release week. Lee did a video a few weeks ago on Instagram signing booklets with the blue-tinged, thinner logo and the deluxe editions available on the store have the thicker, silver logo and are signed on the front of the digipak (I also e-mailed the store who confirmed they were signed on the front)

I’m not sure about You’ll Be Sorry but I don’t believe that’s the situation with Summer of Love. Whichever source was used for that video (I’m guessing a video tape?) would have been run through AI upscale software to take it up to 1080p. No editing would have been required to piece those good/bad Steps shots together again, it’s presumably as it was in the original source file. It seems that some filters were applied to try and smooth things out that may have looked too rough after being enlarged.

It’s a different process to Stomp and One for Sorrow where they had the original film reels, and had to piece it back together to be the same as the original videos. That was such a high quality source that it stands up to modern music videos! Which is not the case with Summer of Love - for them to try and get it to today’s standards, inevitably it results in it looking quite artificial in places.

By the way, my observations made about this video are intended to be matter of fact, I don’t intend to come across as being ungrateful. I really appreciate the effort that everyone involved has put into the videos. It’s clearly much better overall than what we had originally & the best job has been done with what they had to work with. When I said “disappointing”, I only mean in relation to previous videos - but that’s no one’s fault. I just found it interesting to observe which aspects of the video the upscale couldn’t quite handle!

It'll probably have been Beta SP format for all the non-Amphlett videos, which is SD TV broadcast quality.

Some of the imperfections that can be seen on Summer Of Love may be due to YouTube, as their compression is a bit rubbish.

It does sound like it was from that recording session.

It'll probably the booklet of the digipack that's signed.

Same town different venue; Steps were at the Arena, Westlife were at the Stadium.
Ah I see. Wembley Stadium can seat up to 90,000 people. Really hoping one day Steps is able to sell tickets that many and perform for one night at Wembley Stadium? Got a tad jealous seeing Westlife doing Wembley - it is such an achievement, isn't it?

Dunno if it’s been mentioned but Panic At The Discos new album is also out on the 19th.

Are they still relevant? Any competition there? They’ve had almost as many likes on their tweet in 2 days than Steps have had in over 2 months

So far Stomp, One For Sorrow are truly rescanned from the film they used. And judging by that Platinum Megamix video It's the way you make me feel & Deeper Shade of blue would be too and we'll have them in 4K.
The rest is just AI Upscaled from really good original master. The problem with Summer of love lies in encoding the upscaled video not because of the source. The video doesn't have enough bitrate to maintain the details hence the breaking.

People can only do what they can with the source material they get. At the end of the day, there’s a few split seconds where things go off slightly but it’s a damn sight better than what we had before. Maybe we should all start being a bit more grateful and showing more appreciation into the hard work put in rather than nitpicking the tiniest of flaws.

We can be both grateful and giving constructive comment at the same time. Nobody is dismissing the work they're doing. I am thankful for those HD/4K videos because God knows how many troubles they had to go through to get them for us. But if I see a problem I will say it because there's a chance they could fix it now or in future uploads.
