Steps - General Discussion

Just out of interest, was I Know Him So Well recorded especially for the Abbamania album, or was it intended for the Steptacular album originally?

Definitely for Abbamania, at least as a primary motivator. I’m still gutted that Denise Van Outen’s Gimme Gimme Gimme wasn’t a number one international smash.

I Know Him So Well is a non-entity in the discography but it’s harmless enough. It’s probably gained a greater profile in the catalogue from being on The Ultimate Collection, and it’s a well-known song covered by a well-known band which will probably attract a fair amount of streams, so I see why they’ve put a spotlight on it.

Definitely a smart move uploading official performances as it looks like they're not allowing existing videos of the performances meaning they can takeover the views (Although unsure if this will result in YouTube account closures if they recieve multiple strikes)

I'd assume they got the rights before uploading them?
Sorry was referring to the unofficial uploads (all the old accounts that had the Abbamania performance "I know him so well" are now blocked in the UK)

To celebrate the release of the tour DVD, I am going to interview Steve Anderson next week for the podcast! Any questions for him and his work on the tour, the DVD and Steps in general?

Does he receive any orders/specifications for his rearrangements?

What role does he have on the tours’ setlist decisions ?

One example : Vogue/Better the devil. Is the mash up his idea ? Or is it an order?

Does he work alone? How?

I really would like to know what role he plays apart from rearranging music. Is he told « rearrange 5,6,7,8 so that he gets a 60s vibe please », or « please mash-up 5,6,7,8 with Groove is on the Heart » or « Steve, help up fit 5,6,7,8 in the tour. »

Does he play a role into creating the setlist and the different sections? Or is the setlist done when he starts working for a tour?

Does he simply put old vocals on his rearrangements so that the artists can rehearse or does he have the artists rerecord vocals? Both I think?

What is his most satisfying work (song rearrangement) with Steps? The one that was the hardest?

How come we get some of this works in the Platinum Collection? Because of the demand?

That kind of questions.

These are all excellent questions.

Has he played a part in the audio editing/mastering of the dvd?

Using the example of ONE song (5,6,7,8 being the most difficult to work with I guess?), describe the works around its feature and its rearrangement for the tour, from the first reunions to the final mix.

All of these please! Great work @TMI

Plus ask him to leak more of his versions if they’re not getting released officially
