Steps - General Discussion

Based on nothing I think we are in for a similar gap as the one between ultimate/light up the world and Tears. So 4 years ish. Ready for the 30th anniversary. But what they do for that is anyone's guess. Hopefully there will be deluxe/vinyl reissues in the meantime.

Gutted I didn't make it on Sunday, I was meant to go but I didn't fancy going to a full on pride event on my own.

I think of that gap as ages, but you’re right, it was only four years.

Same. I can't remember whether I expected them to attempt another album - probably didn't care after the disaster that was Light Up The World.

Yeah I guess I just had zero expectations of actual good material from them + also took it as a one off reunion era

The passing of time, and perception of it always scares me in Steps terms.

The gap between the split and the 2011 reunion felt like an eternity. But we are now further from the 2011 reunion now than that gap, and it really doesn't feel like that long at all.

This is going to be a difficult question. How many songs have they released officially since 1997.

I was trying to work out since Scared of the Dark l. I made it 37 but maybe I’ve forgotten something important. I’m not counting Remixes/Demos/Acoustics.

I haven’t really been keeping up. Has the view that some members are happier to be taking a break more so than others actually come from anything the band themselves have said, or is it conjecture from this forum?

I might be just not finding it, but does anyone know why the HD version of Say You'll Be Mine has disappeared from youtube?
I think maybe the uploads got merged and the HD video now has the stats and thumnail from the original upload. I only see one video that doesn't have "HD" in the thumbnail, but it loads in HD when I click on it.

So I’m meeting HRH Queen of the Huns, Lisa Scott-Lee later today.

What questions shall I ask her?

Perhaps ask her if she expects it’ll be another big anniversary before we hear from Steps again? I think she’s the most likely to give an honest answer. H’s “a very long time” and “who knows when we’ll do this again” suggests loosely that there are either no plans in place or that they’re further away than the last cycle (ie the 30th). I do think they need a year or two off and time to build up interest and to source new material but I also think a gap like the one between Light Up The World and Tears would be too long at this stage. Might be reading too much into it, but would love to know Lisa’s perspective.

Would like to know if there’s any truth to the theatre production they’ve hinted at previously. That could be something to fill the gap!
