Steps

What The Future Holds DVD & Bluray just arrived at my doorstep and I just finished watching the entire show and the documentary.

My Top 6:
- Something In Your Eyes
- After The Love Has Gone
- Take Me For A Ride
- Scared Of The Dark
- Better The Devil You Know/Vogue
- Chain Reaction

I am very pleased with how the entire filming and editing have turned out, despite the fact Lee was completely and visibly missing from the stage. And I'm so proud of the fact that they didn't look distressed during the O2 night - were completely composed. What a PRO!

What I'm gutted about?

The fact that it's just probably the hardcore fans who know how hard they worked for this particular tour and how much they sacrificed. Most people and the industry would never watch this documentary and FOR ONCE, acknowledge how great they are.

I reveiced the A5 book this week and it’s a beauty. Each song from the setlist has got its own page with pictures. The book is therefore thicker that I thought.

The show itself is very well edited and while it’s sometimes weird to see Lee appear from nowhere or disappear like a magician, it’s a very enjoyable watch.

It’s funny how he’s the one introducing Heartbeat with Claire but not being on stage to sing it afterwards.

They really weren't the best mimers were they.
You think, I thought they where the best in the business at miming and I’m not saying that as sarcasm but I actually think they ‘had it down to a T’ miming as they did so much of it. I look back at old footage and think if you didn’t know that was the record you’d never know!

The colour video for I Said Goodbye makes it feels like a brand new video. Does it have some new shots in there too? I know the beginning is new, but throughout, it looks like some unseen footage to me?

Not seen this before

So much for them disliking each other and not getting on in their final year as you get Lee laughing at something either Faye or Claire did next to him, H trying to make Lisa laugh and Faye laughing at something H did at the end of the performance. If you watch the Sky Living documentary you get the impression in 2001 they all didn’t get on in Steps world, so it shows how much is taken over the top or made up in the sky reunion show for drama

Exactly - even on the night of the letters, they were still laughing and joking because they had to put up a front as a band.

Where manufactured 90s pop groups trained in the art of subtle playful joking banter and messing around with each other like they are mates though? They seem like off the guff genuine little playful moments when I see any pop group do this not part of what they rehearsed? I know these pop groups have to look like they are friends to fans but to what extent ?

I mean, they have to pretend to like every single fan and interviewer they meet too, so it's a pretty big part of the job. And there's a whole world between being the best of friends and 'hating eachother so much they can't even smile when they're around eachother'.

(Also I think it's quite natural that once you're fed up with someone you tend to think of all the bad moments before that as if it was all bad instead of thinking 'oh yeah, we did have a laugh x weeks ago')

I guess so see what your saying! I do remember things like Claire saying ‘they where barely even speaking towards the end’, Lee wanting to push H up against a wall and punch him at parts in the sky living documentary so it did sound bad in the group
