Stock, Aitken & Waterman

Really great last episode of the Journey Through Stock Aitken Waterman. I Just Don't Have The Heart, is top tier Hit Factory for me and actually my favourite song they did with a male artist as it happens. Can't Forget You by Sonia, is actually also my favourite Sonia single and an criminally underrated gem, if not the right follow up to You'll Never Stop Me Loving You. That said, don't think it would have been an bigger hit whenever released.

Can't forget you flopped as it was a 'fanbase' track. You'll never stop had huge broad appeal but the goodwill for that wasn't there for the follow up. It was bought by Sonia 'fans' only.
I agree with @WhatKindOfKylie? that it was too soon for that kind of track as only the 2nd single, coming off a mega #1. It would have been like Rick putting out...um, It Would Take A Strong Man as the follow-up to Never Gonna Give You Up or something.

I’m a massive fan of both but I have never liked I Just Don’t Have The Heart. It’s facile SAW at their worst, I was so surprised that Cliff recorded it to be honest, as it’s superficial shallow viewpoint on a relationship is so different to his previous body of work. I think the damning point is that it was lined up to be his 100th single but it wasn’t felt good enough for a landmark release and replaced by the far better Best Of Me. The only blip in SAW1989land for me.

And so SAW released the new Jason single the same week to deny him #1.

(So Pete claims).

Exactly, as much as I love Can't Forget You, Listen To Your Heart would have made more sense as single #2. I know it only just made it to the top 10, but it did have a pretty decent chart run overall, 8 weeks in the top 40 over late 1989/early 1990. Wonder sometimes if it could have been bigger if released earlier. We'll never know of course!
