Stock, Aitken & Waterman

I want to re-do the audio on my 'They Say It's Gonna Rain' YouTube upload with CD audio (I didn't have the skillz back when I uploaded this to alter the audio speed to match the video, which is an issue with many 80s music videos), but if I do, I'll lose all those views, comments and probably also my place in the search results for the song title and Hazell Dean. So mediocre audio quality it is. I hate YouTube.

Or Always Doesn’t Mean Forever - another SAW/Hazell corker that flopped inexplicably. The other “obvious” single from the album would have been Walk In My Shoes though as that wasn’t SAW written or produced was likely discounted as potential.

Wasn't Walk In My Shoes a single somewhere in Europe earlier in the 80s? I thought that was why a remix appeared on the Always reissue. I'm guessing it didn't perform well, which would lead it to being ignored in favour of the S/A/W tracks in the UK. Always really is one of the best S/A/W infused albums of the time, I don't think there's a track on it I actively skip. That it includes a number of extended mixes on the CD - with different mixes of Maybe on different CD pressings - hammers home that you were most likely to hear Hazell 'in the club' than on the radio.

I think Pocket Full Of Dreams is a strong pop album from the late 80s. Albums tended to have a lot more filler back in those days but I think that isn’t the case with this one. But I agree that it suffers from the boys lack of vocal ability. And why the label ever thought it was a good idea to release the career-ending Hey There Lonely Girl as a single I still can’t fathom to this day!

That's the worst song on the album. I guess they thought it could do for them what Tears On My Pillow had done for Kylie. Their cover of Blame It On the Boogie is decent though, but their I Feel The Earth Move pales in comparison to Martika's cover which was a hit around the time of Big Fun's brief popularity. Can't Shake The Feeling, Handful of Promises, Bring Your Love Back, Fight For The Right To Party are all great.

I bought SAW related vinyl on eBay a few months back and the seller accidentally packed A Pocketful Of Dreams in with the item.

That’s my excuse for having a Big Fun album….
