Sugababes - The Lost Tapes (Deluxe) + 9th Album

I've listened to The Lost Tapes on repeat for the past few weeks. Today I listened to Mutya's solo album. After listening to that I really feel that Mutya is underused (is that a word?) on The Lost Tapes. I feel that Siobhan and Keisha strengths are more highlighted on the album. I really hope that for future projects Mutya will be more present in songwriting but also on choruses and epic middle 8's (not like the dull one on I'm Alright).
Completely agree. From the writing credits, it seems she was less involved creatively, but that voice always deserves to shine. I wish we heard her more here.

I feel Mutya often gets buried/hidden because of her lower placing in their harmonies - it's easier to detect Siobhán and Keisha because their higher tones can be identified more easily.

New interview from an Australian outlet. Siobhan says releasing The Lost Tapes paved the way for new music as she couldn’t “move on” from the MKS material

Mutya: We’ve got so much going on this year, so it’s about finding the right timing. Hopefully, we’re looking at working with some good producers.

From their previous collaborators I would love it if Cameron McVey, Dev Hynes, Richard X, Biff Standard, Shaznay Lewis and MNEK were on board and did some tracks for the new album.

Other producers/songwriters I think could be a good match for them: Mura Masa, SG Lewis (a BOP!), Jack Antonoff (I know some will disagree but I think it could 100% work), Sega Bodega, PinkPantheress, Kaytranada, Daniel Nigro, Rick Nowels (a classic Sugababes ballad), Danny L Harle, El Gincho, ...

That's a great interview. Considering how long we've lived with these songs it's crazy how little we've heard from the band about them? Hopefully we get more on the Lost Tapes - and new music - in the latest round of tour promo.

Brand new music in 2023, then?

Since their schedule is pretty packed this year, this suggests that we won’t see anything “new” until 2024 no? If there’s no concrete plan and they’re looking forward to studio time, there isn’t “an album” sitting in the bank waiting to come out. Perhaps that’s a good thing, The Lost Tapes will get their deserved time in the sun after all? Rather than getting lost in the shuffle of a new project.

I mean, I want a new album, I’d take one tomorrow if I could. But re-establishing themselves in Australia and then putting on increasingly-large shows until they get to the O2, all before officially beginning to release their “comeback single” seems like the right choice.

Given how involved they are in the creative process, they'll need to allow themselves time to get into it. But also... do they have a label?

I'd really love to see them do some more fashion shoots this year. The MKS era was somehow bursting with them in the short time they were 'active'.
