Planning process for the tour doesn't sound like much space for dropping new music. Maybe it is time to give up on it after all.
Touring Europe would have made sense anyway since they haven't been here, with some fitting venues maybe. Otherwise new music, another festival circuit and then a proper new tour in 2026 would have made more sense, yes. This tour feels... like a bit of an overreach. When you have demented fans who have carried a torch for them for over a decade of inactivity even feeling like they've seen enough of what they have to offer and not cashing in, it's maybe time for some kind of rethink. This is, what, their third consecutive year of hitting the festival circuit, and a pretty extensive tour with big venues to fill? If you're not going to fill those venues, then you at least need to be galvanising the fans that will pay for meet and greets, golden circle, six vinyl variants, etc. I imagine these venues will end up full enough, but it might be the last time they can get away with them. Even Girls Aloud, who have more hits to play with, seemed to be reaching a bit of a setlist wall on the last tour because you can only play the same fourteen or so songs in so many combinations before it gets a bit stale. Chuck in a new single or two that will at least Radio 2 play or something. I'm interested to see if new music materialises.
