Many years ago, I did radio industry training. I didn’t pursue it in the end because it was near impossible to break into. I don’t know how different the landscape is today. There used to be pluggers, who would be employed to persuade radio stations to playlist songs. I remember speaking with said plugger and she would tell wild stories about how record companies would fly her out to amazing locations for intimate gigs and listening parties. I remember her mentioning a particularly generous Mariah Carey offer. This was 20 years ago and the landscape is so different. I think now there are particularly amazing PR companies that have the edge over others in terms of getting traction.I’m sure there’s a fee to get your music playlisted on radio? Maybe it’s harder for independent acts?
