Sugababes - "Weeds” + 9th Album

Well, at least it is a top 5 hit in their Spotify stats, so that is that.
Already number 3 but it seems the streams are slowing down a bit. We're not near a million streams.

Hopefully radiostations will play the songs so it keeps momentum. The girls recorded a video for this, which is not cheap. They need more exposure to recoup the costs.

It's definitely slowing down. I was hoping the Comic Relief gig would boost streams/sales.

As Jungle wasn't on the main show but the BBC 2 extra show late at night I'm not sure that many would've seen the performance of it sadly.

I don't get why Radio 2 would playlist the new Louise single (they playlisted her other singles too) but not Jungle. It's the same audience surely? Unless it is because they're independent. Maybe "the industry" just doesn't want to help them succeed without them.

It was getting most streams from New Music Friday playlists, so if anything it is holding well without them.

And the thing with TV performances is that the effect on TV is not short term. Yes, one or two thousand people will immediately go after and play the song on Spotify but that's nothing compared to the daily streams from playlists as we can see above.

Would not surprise me if there’s some sort of politics behind the scenes. Sabotage? Crown? Those industry people the girls spoke of before?

I hope I’m dead wrong. Our girls deserve a break and all the success they deserve!

Listening to the Stock Aitken Waterman podcast has been illuminating on how much this stuff really happens. Artists changing label or going independent and radio stations being pushed by the former labels not to play them. A case of "we don't want them but we don't want them to have success without us either" Or people being blacklisted by the industry for being "too demanding" etc.

I'd like to think things have progressed since the 80s but I don't know... Even the Flatline situation was extremely suspect looking back. I try not to get too caught up in conspiracy but there comes a time wheh it looks like what's happening isn't normal.
