Sugababies on the run y'all!!!
Like someone said above Crown hasn't opposed the Sacred Three LLP UK trademark application from October 2019. This is great!
The Crown renewal application on EUIPO isn't for everything they previously owned if you look carefully. It's for specific clauses of the trademark. Therefore they are likely to be protecting their assets and future royalties from a huge back catalogue of music and products associated with the name "Sugababes". I think it was always unlikely Keisha was going to get all the rights to the name as a single person unless she was as rich as Michael Jackson to buy you know the Beatles and all of Sony once upon a time! So years of courts and legal issues likely led to a deal where they can use the name based on the inactivity of 4.0 and Crown not using the trademark for over 5 years hence the initial revocation proceedings from 2017 which is still with the UK high court.
Mutya said on Sisco's IG Live there is still a lot of legal issues with the trademark and name they can't talk about but they have been using it and they can continue to so that's good enough for me. I have no concerns that Crown are still jeopardising the girls future I think they are finalising which songwriters, producers, singers etc get the royalties from the back catalogue and future earnings which I imagine would include Heidi and Amelle as they co wrote a lot of material that is still selling.
Re the reunion plans offcourse they have been vague but Mutya mentioned recorded material for the One Touch Anniversary which sounds like music and separate to new music to me. I think the Kabba, MNEK, Loxe, Caplen, Sinead stuff is all brand new music seperate to One Touch Anniversary material and plans.
Also Mutya made it seem like Flatline will be (or might have already been) re recorded as Sugababes. I wonder if the upcoming sessions with Dev Hynes were to re record it and do some more new music aswell. I'm not sure whose decision it was to delete Flatline if it was a Sugababes and Whitney or Polydor thing but I honestly don't think it's a bad thing as long as it's back and better than ever. As much as the music video grew on me and we worked hard for the #flatline1million campaign just before it got deleted it was achieved and I'm proud of us for that.
In terms of a fresh start and new attack on the music scene I can deal with MKS era being deleted and look to the future!
Thank you for this summary! It's cleared a lot of things up for me!
I should've purchased the Flatline video while it was up, though...
