Sugababes

If it’s true that Keisha was trying to get Mutya back in, I wonder why Heidi was so against it?

They had no relationship and Heidi was hurt that Mutya never personally told Heidi she was leaving the band. Heidi said in a few interviews that towards the end of 2.0, she and Mutya were closer than what Keisha and Mutya were. I do understand that it was hurtful for Heidi to have your friend not call you or even speak about something as serious as leaving face to face. All those years of friendship for Mutya to do that to her. I guess they never reconnected and either party didnt ever reach out and Heidi didnt want someone who was treated her like that, back in the band.

I have this, rather heartless, outlook on the group now.

For years, it's been so frustrating being a Sugababes fan. Not only during the Sweet 7 drama, but from the start the band has always been ploughed with chaotic tabloid stories etc.

But now, seeing the girls doing a victory lap and delivering, in my opinion, their best album yet; I'm kind of looking back at the drama a bit more, erm, fondly (?) as it all adds to the history of the band and the fact they were able to write The Lost Tapes leaning so much on their experiences.

Obviously this is awful of me as the girls are not characters in a soap opera and all 6 of them came out of their time in band with serious trauma which took years to heal/still working through it; but... also I live for the drama? Like a good episode of Drag Race from early seasons (again, real people with real trauma).

Too cruel. Might delete later.

Can you please stop depicting Heidi as the innocent one and Keisha or Mutya as the villain when you have no proof of what actually happened?

Proof is all in the interviews, you can find them in YouTube. Everything I wrote, Heidi said. Mutya has never came out and denied it. Yes she turned up at CDUK to 'wish them well' but that was not the time and place to ambush not only Heidi, but Amelle who had just joined. Completely inappropriate. Wrong time, wrong place. However, if this was all filmed it would have made great TV!

Still you are building a narrative on something Heidi has stated about 16 years ago and on top of that you’re making a judgement on Mutya (“inappropriate”) not knowing all the circumstances.
The most important thing is that now, in 2023, the girls said that everything’s ok and they are supportive of each other. I don’t know why you feel the need to put one against the other (deciding who is the bad one and who is the good one) doing exactly what their management did to them during their first time together.

Mutya's also said that after she left, she was told "by people" that she wasn't allowed to be anywhere that the Sugababes were. We know their management were manipulative and playing the girls against one another based on interviews with 1.0, so I don't think it's quite as clear cut as Mutya didn't reach out to Heidi or Heidi didn't want to speak to Mutya.

Yeah, no matter what happened its all in the past now allthough lets be real the truth always lies in the middle. None of the members is an innocent angel and none of them are villains. They've all made mistakes, told lies and said things they regret.

All the girls have moved on from this - why haven’t we?

That’s a more pressing topic worth exploring here, instead of rehashing the same points that have been made for multiple years/pages in this thread.
Because it's not the same people making those points?

Like, I get it - but also it is a forum where conversations will repeat themselves, it just goes with the territory. This thread alone started in 2006, and with different people filtering in and out over the years conversations will have to loop sooner or later.

Did I just see Heidi and chicken out of talking to her? Why yes, yes I did.

She was talking to a friend so I didn’t want to interrupt and then when I did we were walking through a doorway so she thought I was saying excuse me to pass her so she moved aside while continuing to walk forward.

I’m furious with myself to be honest.

Now this is what I want to hear about!

Like, where was this?

Respectfully, there are two other threads to discuss the current line up, album, upcoming live dates etc. If people want to discuss the past in this one, I don’t see why that’s such an issue. If this was happening in the thread for The Lost Tapes, I’d understand why you were annoyed but this is the general Sugababes thread to discuss all things related to the band, including the past. Plus, it’s the past that has led us to where we are now. To ignore that is silly.

I was simply responding the user in the previous page who asked why Heidi would be against Mutya returning to the band. This is a forum and I am aloud to contribute with an answer. I wasn't building a narrative, I actually gave you the proof of my answer with a Youtube video of Heidi herself making a point of how she felt about Mutya leaving back in 2007. Hopefully that would help the person asking the question why Heidi was not keen for Mutya to return.

When performing Red Dress, I never really got why Amelle was always left to carry the chorus on her own? Especially when they were originally promoting it and Amelle had been in the band for three seconds. She did a good job but it was slightly awkward.

I love that 1.0 sing it together now. It sounds so punchy.

I honestly feel the thread has let carried away itself too much with the "history" of Mutya replacing Amelle. I think it maybe crossed Keisha’s mind for a second but I doubt Mutya was intended to be contacted in any official capacity. On the other hand, the speed Jade was approached with has been pretty scary.

It kinda ended up being a thing that the new member essentially had a solo chorus/big moment on their first song? Heidi had the most to sing in Freak Like Me, Amelle had the chorus of Red Dress, and Jade ended up having the chorus of About A Girl to herself (on the studio version anyway).

Also, it's still such a scream that this exists

Whenever I think of 4.0 it's one of the first things I think of ddd, the way the whole thing was handled was just a complete mess

This ad resulted in the following hilarious dissection of it by the much-missed Martyn Hett here.
