I hadn't heard of this until like 20 minutes ago when I heard Paris Jackson and Billie were in it, but I'm perched. It looks amazing.
Created by Childish Gambino, Swarm takes a deliriously bizarre dive into stan culture. Dominique Fishback gives a fascinating performance as Dre, an awkward young woman obsessed with fictitious pop star, Ni'Jah, and is a prominent member of her fanbase, known as "The Swarm". The show centres on Dre's obsession and the dark spiral it sends her down.
The show also features Chloe Bailey as Dre's sister and best friend Marissa, as well as guest appearances from Paris Jackson, Rory Culkin and Billie Eilish in her acting debut.

This was really good. Very well written and directed.
I know the whole show was intentionally "based on Beyoncé" but I was confused at the end when they started bleeping the artist's name out and the fan on screen had actual BeyHive merch and Destiny's Child posters that they'd censored out? Was it supposed to be some sort of blurring the lines moment?

I think? That whole episode was a mock version of a true crime series, so the "creators" probably did that so Nai'jah didn't sue them for using her image, etc.

Feel like this is going to end up falling way under the radar, which sucks. Not seeing a ton of talk on social media outside of the Billie clip. But this made me laugh

Someone on Reddit posed the theory that it's a show-within-a-show, meaning that everything we're seeing outside of the sixth episode is the dramatization of an incident involving a Beyonce stan that "actually" happened in an alternate universe - it tracks to me, especially when you factor in that Marissa's parents in episode 6 look different from the actors portraying them earlier in the series and the idea that the ending of the seventh episode is a dream sequence; what they show in E6 is Dre getting arrested and escorted offstage in "reality".
It also apparently takes place in the same universe as Atlanta, which adds another layer of line-blurring to the whole thing.

It was a great watch!
I was worried it would become a bit formulaic after the second episode but the show proved to be much more than just a ‘toxic stan’ .

But why were the parents convinced Dre killed Marissa? I thought it was going to be revealed in the finale that Dre actually snapped and killed her but repressed it… especially with the flashbacks she was of having during the therapy scene of Marissa with the pan. I guess it was something that was embellished by the show within the show as I feel like the mother in the true crime ep would of said something.

I think they blamed her in the sense that they felt like she held Marissa back and took advantage of her financially? I was kind of confused as well, but that's what I was getting out of it. I think if she had truly killed her, their reaction to seeing her at the funeral would've been a lot different.

Oh, that does make sense. I had to go back and rewatch that episode to process it because I could have sworn we saw the “real” characters in an earlier episode when they were younger.
