Currently a little bit wine drunk and listening to 1989 and I think, despite how nostalgic and deeply personal Red is/was to me, that this is the re-recording that’s going to have me in the fucking trenches.
You all tolerate my rambling so graciously so allow me, for one moment:
I was in my senior year of high school, beginning my first ever toxic and brain chemistry altering relationship, driving to school on a foggy October morning, flipping through radio stations when Out of the Woods happened to be being premiered for the first time (I think that’s how it premiered?). I parked in the school parking lot and turned it up, sat back, and knew I’d want to remember that moment. It was “college orientation” day for the seniors so my best friend and I skipped first period to go get coffee as I pulled up an already ripped version of the song on my iPhone 6s (my efficiency back then is startling to me nowadays. It’s a wonder if I manage to find a leak these days) to play on her 1992 speakers at near full volume. I listened to it on the entire bus ride to the neighboring town where we walked passed the booths of different schools promising to make our dreams come true. My best friend tapped me on the shoulder on the bus ride back and pulled a headphone out of my ear so she could listen again, too. If I’m not mistaken, it was later that night that I heard Welcome to New York for the first time as well (I want to say that Welcome to New York and Out of the Woods were actually released as pre-release singles ahead of the album?), while I scrolled through the instagram of a guy I had a debilitating crush on (actually the best friend of the guy that I was starting to date) and I felt so…electrified.
When I look back on that time, I think I’m most reminiscent on how the world felt so new and big and fresh to a barely 18 year old me and to the bonafide Pop Star that Taylor had seemingly morphed into overnight. I felt like we were both entering a new era of our lives together, as silly as that may sound, and it was all so thrilling. All of the kids at school that made fun of her before were suddenly obsessed with her and it was exciting to me to watch a juggernaut of an era happen in real time.
A year later when I was in the fall term of my freshman year of college, the Out of the Woods video dropped. That same best friend and I were about to go home for thanksgiving break and I laid on her couch watching the video and thinking about the same dumbass guy that I had on my mind when I first heard the song, what felt like ages ago but had only been a single year prior.
1989 soundtracked that last year of high school for me in a way that few albums have been able to so fiercely define an era of my life since. I don’t think it’s technically her best album and she’s absolutely surpassed it in several categories since, but there’s almost nothing that takes me back to such specific and singular moments like this album does. Red does in a lot of ways, but it’s harder to tie such pointed feelings to it when you’re only 15/16 and haven’t really felt anything yet.
All of this to say, apologies in advance when that re-recording drops because I’ll most likely be more insufferable than I am currently. I was actually lurking on these boards daily back then, I just didn’t have the confidence to make an account quite yet. I vividly remember reading first reactions as people were reaching Style for the first time…and what a time. I’m excited to relive it all again with a lot of the same people I quietly experienced it with the first time. And I know I’ve made a few comments about my dear friend that passed in 2020, but she really was the biggest Taylor fan I knew and it’s emotional for me, with each re-recorded piece of music and new album we get, to wonder what she’d be thinking and where she’d be today if she were still here. She was such a big part of that 1989 defined year and I’m both looking forward to and sad to imagine that day coming without her. I’m thankful though, as cheesy as it probably sounds, to still be here to experience it again with all of you.

I didn't realize until the Grammys aired that technically the Short Film version of All Too Well 10 Minute Version was the one nominated? I guess it really doesn't make a difference (especially for the SOTY category) but that version is superior anyway in my book!
I wish she won, I don't think she's had a nomination more deserving of it. She really accomplished a big feat with that song and it's impact.

Some of the Twitter swifties are adamant that this is Taylor’s Version but I’m 99% sure it’s the original.
That said, I bet the Jack songs on reputation are going to sound the closest to the originals since I’m sure he’s going to take the time and care on them. Also, her voice hasn’t really changed since then.

I've said this so many times but I'm not particularly looking forward to either the 1989 or Reputation re-records. The former because she got so much right the first time around, the latter because it's still recent enough in her career that I don't foresee it sounding that different (and the lowlights really don't need to be mentioned ever again)
I’m mainly excited for the vault tracks for these. I do love This Love TV, and Wildest Dreams TV is also solid, but I’m definitely nervous about the rest after hearing the Max songs on Red (unless of course she saw the feedback and decided to do whatever she needed to do to get Max back on board). But they’ll be fun, nostalgic listens for sure!

Gorgeous is my favourite song from Reputation. I can’t wait for Taylor’s Version of that ultimate bop!
The instrumental of 'Gorgeous' always reminded me of music used for Mario N64 so I've always adored it.
I'm actually looking forward to reputation removed from that entire time period, the vault tracks will certainly be better than the several clanging lows on the standard edition.
1989 passes 5 billion streams on Spotify, and is still the 15th most streamed album daily.
Would have likely been the most streamed album by a female artist if she hadn't been all "Music Has Value!" back in the day. Kind of hope they figure the masters situation out before 1989 (TV) comes out and not interrupt the legendary chart run the original continues to have.

It’s sold over 14 million worldwide so I think she’s okay with it and TV will come out she has nothing to lose and everything to gain.
