Taylor Swift - Midnights

Well that ain't happening. She's outgrown him anyway. She favours more freeform songwriting and he's obsessed with structure and "rules."

Sis Midnights is full of traditionally structured pop songs with the same Jack Antonoff production playground she’s been playing in for years. Her most recent #1 smash is a POP song through and through. And it isn’t superior or more mature than her songs with Max.

I don’t really care whether Taylor works with Max again but wow Folklore has really made some of you bold.

As if Max would ever put out a song with highly wordy verses and lyrics like "Did you hear my covert narcissism I disguised as altruism, like some kind of congressman?" - he just likes really neat pop structures and she's moving away from that. And I kinda do think this song is superior to her smashes with Max.

(Folklore wielding that much power? Iconic albums only.)

This.. Doesn't make any sense? Max collaborates with artists, he doesn't have a monopoly over their verse lyrics and word choices. He's not going to grab Taylor's pen and say her vocabulary is too advanced or dynamic for him.

Anti-Hero is a conventional pop song, with a basic structure and verse melody.

He/Him
Weren’t most of Taylor’s Max songs solely written by Taylor on a piano and just brought to him to produce? He has writing credits but only from tweaking or as a result of producing the tracks.

This does make sense, to a certain extent though. It’s no secret Max has a formula he sticks to for pop songs. His disagreement with Ariana over Into You lyrics is a well documented example of his obsession of melody over “correct” language.

I would imagine her distance from Max Martin is more born out of his standard writing credit that he gets regardless of input into lyrics? I remember reading at one point that he’ll get those credits even when it’s just production that he’s responsible for. Open to correction there, though.

During her speech for the National Music Publishers Association last year she talked about how much she learned about melody writing from Max and Shellback, and said she will learn even more from them “the next time we work together” so it seems like that door is open.

I think i read somewhere that during her speech for the National Music Publishers Association last year she talked about how much she learned about melody writing from Max and Shellback, and said she will learn even more from them “the next time they work together” so it seems like that door is open.
