The Johny Mayer is a creep convo is legit, but I also think Taylor's fans conveniently overlook when she was a 22 year old superstar dating a 17 year old high school student. That's a legal adult dating someone who's not and there was also a power imbalance. Yes, he had a famous last name but he was just a kid - she was one of the most famous women in the world. Was the age gap as big as John and Taylor? No. But don't sweep her own spotty history under the rug either. If he came out and said he felt taken advantage of, his experience would be just as valid as Taylor's with John.
This isn't me trying to drag her. I like Taylor. And I suspect a delayed adolescence contributed to some of those relationships that raise an eyebrow. But two things can be true at once - John pursuing a relationship with her was inappropriate and its ok to acknowledge she waded in that pool herself.

Regardless, I think it’s important that we don’t normalise online abuse from any fandom. I often don’t tweet about pop stars these days or engage in discussions because it gets so toxic and it’s really not healthy for anyone involved.
