Tennis

Yeah, in multiple ways dd. That match was basically the end of Capriati’s career and she totally bungled a chance to finally reach a US Open final by losing to Dementieva in the next round.

Not sure if this or her choke against Henin the year prior is worse lol. So weird that she lost all her mettle after saving 4 championship points to win the 2002 AO just a couple years earlier.

Yeah, she wasn’t playing at the same level in 2003 and 2004 overall that she was just a few years prior.

Her level has been INCREDIBLE lately... until it isn't. Would love to see her actually put all the pieces together here or, better yet, at RG again. I know I shouldn't find her antics as amusing as I do, but I'd honestly kill for a Tennis Channel series where she takes on the line system.

Disappointed about Rafa, but not surprised. Retirement must be imminent... do we think he'll try and hang on for Paris 2024?

Do we think she's out of RG? That would blow things wide open...
That would mean only two former champions (Ostapenko and Krejcikova) entering the main draw. Same number as the Australian, and likely Wimbledon too unless Venus decides to make an appearance and/or the shitshow around Simona's drug ban is resolved in her favour between now and then.

It doesn't look good for Rafa, but I don't think he'll announce retirement just yet - he'll want to say a proper goodbye on court. When and where that will happen is another matter.

Sorry if I'm being dense, but I don't understand from the press release what the new infraction is or what an ABP is? Did they find the same substance in a blood sample from another date? Or is there now a second substance in the mix?

It's hard to see clearly in this situation. Is Simona putting on a world-class performance of denial, or is the ITIA determined to bag a big name after they failed to take down Maria? The longer it goes, the more I think about how so many people came out to speak in Simona's defense and to her integrity; I was initially skeptical of such a voracious defense when the facts were so unclear, but the ITIA's delays and attempts to drag her name make me feel there's some sort of vendetta at play.

Andy pulls out of Roland Garros. Not surprised. This is usually my favourite slam but I'm not sure how I feel this year. Can't warm to Iga. No Rafa. Not a fan of Rune.

Ostapenko playing great tennis but she is deeply unpleasant. Appears to have called Rybakina a delightful name at the handshake. Why on earth the women's final started at 11pm is beyond me. Rybakina ended up with 3 retirement victories.

RG quallies draw is out. Kenin and Karatsev amongst more in form players in the draw.

Dddd not a single Roland Garros post in two days. The flop slam!
Has anything noteworthy really happened though? If 'Petra dives out of a slam early to a player well below her pay grade' counted as a shock, we'd all need pacemakers by now. Same with Bencic and Sakkari, and the only big exit on the men's side so far is Felix who has a less than stellar record here.

Good to see Sloane has something left in the tank, though.
