The 1975 - Being Funny In A Foreign Language

The last two songs are certainly hard hitters. Nothing had grabbed me quite has hard as Happiness and I’m In Love With You on the first few listens, but perhaps more time is needed.

The record is nice but a bit twee, the singles are so obvious and a lot of the time Matty just sounds like he’s trying to imitate someone else?
I kind of thought this on my first listen this morning, although Oh Caroline instantly jumped out. I need to give this a few more listens, but one thing I can say is it definitely felt like a more structured concise album which is welcome after the bloat of the last album.

I do really appreciate the brevity of this album, especially considering their last efforts, but the singles are the best things by far and it verges on being a tad too Bleachers for my liking at moments. Looking For Somebody (To Love), Oh Caroline and About You are the new tracks that immediately caught my attention.

It’s a really short and enjoyable album. Is it their best? No. But I do appreciate the more organic and “live” production on this record, I feel like it’s an evolution from Notes, even though I absolutely hammered that record in 2020. There is such a timeless quality to the songs on this album and my favorites are Oh Caroline, I’m in Love With You and All I Need To Hear

The problem with the album sounding "like Bleachers" isn't that it sounds like Bleachers, but rather that every album Jack's been involved in lately has sounded just like Bleachers. I quite like this one though.

It's cool hearing some of these songs (like Happiness, I'm In Love With You and Oh Caroline) that are very true to their signature style be done in a much more organic/raw way. It brings out something fresh from them.

There's such a timeless quality to this album which I absolutely love.

Maybe it's because it's my first time in a while hearing a Jack produced album with a male vocalist, but I do think this is the only real one I've heard recently where a few songs would completely fit in with the latest Bleachers album.

His other recent albums like Dance Fever, Solar Power and Daddy's Home do all have that same raw/organic quality to them, but I think the songs themselves don't sound nearly as much like Bleachers as some here do. Like, I couldn't picture Bleachers doing King, Mood Ring or Down nearly as much as I could picture them doing Part of the Band or Wintering.

It is kind of funny how his sound with Bleachers and other artists goes in phases...the past few years has been all about the raw sound, but around 2014-2017ish it was a lot more 80's/electronic influenced.

About You is good and the soundscape is nice, but overall the album is a little bland and I actually think the last one was better (but then I never got the criticisms of that record). There is a looseness to the songwriting here, a lack of tight melodies that makes it feel not quite for me.

Other than a couple of songs I'm not hearing all this "Bleachers album" teebs. They just took what worked best from the past 2 albums and made a decent short listen out of it.

Looking For Somebody is incredible, the rest is cute.

Do we know who's the female singer on About You?
