The 2007 Number 1 Singles Rate; RESULTS

Bit of a shocker in my opinion...

“You stole everything...”

Score: 7.4
Highest Score; 10 (x3)
Lowest Score; 2 (x1)

Next to leave the rate is the fabulous ‘Beautiful Liar’ (probably thought as a contender to win). The 12th best selling single of 2007, ‘Beautiful Liar’ sat upon the top spot for 3 weeks before being replaced by McFly.. It gained the MTV Video Music Award for ‘Most Earthshattering Collaboration’ and also won a Ivor Novello award for Best-Selling British song in 2007. Bonkylicious said ”Weirdly hypnotic, possibly my favourite”.

My Verdict:
Score; 10
Utterly fabulous and worthy of winning. A fantastic collaboration that included sexiness, sass and some fine ass. This was one of my three 10’s.

Not shocked at all. Pretty much the most average single either of them has ever released.

Kanye West is the next to leave the rate with ‘Stronger’. This song is fantastic and dare I say it’s better than the original.

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm a Daft Punk fan (mostly) but this actually improved on their track. It also got me into Kanye West's music for a while.

I agree. It's weird how a number 1 smash by 2 of the biggest stars in the world managed to pass me by completely but then you listen to it and it makes perfect sense.

No tune. Complete lack of chorus. Dull production. Their voices don't compliment each other at all and even the video terrible which is must have taken some doing when there's so much fabulousness to work with.

Barely worthy of being an album track.

Beautiful Liar is so boring. It just plods on and on. Didn't PJ have an article on it at the time saying something like "this is what what 2 of the world's biggest popstars come up with???" ?. Still, 7.4 and 6th aren't exactly a bad score and placing, especially when you consider what's still to come. I gave it a 4.

Ah, Beautiful Liar, two sporadically amazing popstars with two of the most grating voices in music coming together to sound somehow not annoying. The song was clearly written as an afterthought to fit the video rather than the other way around, but it's such an entrancing watch that a tune with one tenth of that effect can still hypnotise me into inadvertent heterosexuality.

Much as I love it, I didn't expect it to make the top ten, let alone win! Can we all agree that it's at least better than the non-rap bits of Me Against the Music?

Score: 7.6
Highest Score; 10 (x6)
Lowest Score; 4 (x2)

In 5th place is the second and final Timbaland song on the rate ‘The Way I Are’. It spent 2 weeks at number 1 and went on to become the 7th best selling single of 2007. The song features vocals from Keri Hilson and D.O.E. It samples ‘Push It’ by Salt-n-Pepa and is sexy as hell. Bonkylicious said ”Might stretch it to a 9 if the single was the video version”.

My Verdict:
Score;10
Just amazing really. Keri’s vocals are actually rather good on this and the song just oozes sexiness (and sluttiness). My 2nd 10 of the rate, 5 is a respectable place indeed.

“You cut me open...”

Score: 7.8
Highest Score; 10 (x9)
Lowest Score; 0 (x1)

In 4th place is ‘Bleeding Love’, the best selling single of 2007 and Leona’s second song in the rate. The song has received critical and chart success reaching number 1 in 34 countries. There’s not much else to say really, probably the biggest song to come out of the X-Factor and one of the biggest selling songs of all time. Bonkylicious said ”half-decent melody, fuck all else”.

My Verdict:
Score; 8
It’s a very good song, but I think after the initial hype you start to find flaws in it. The emotional attachment (or lack of) is one thing, but personally I just wanted a few more whistles and bells. Although saying that it probably should never be tampered with ever (Lloyd Daniels/Cheryl/Producers).

I'm quite surprised 'Stronger' got you into some Kanye music! But very glad indeed!
