The 80s-90s Lost Classics Rate - Goodbye Wes! :'-(

@pop3blow2 (8.5)- is about to announce their next Rate Idea!!

Don't think I'm not forcing people to listen to a bit of Opera one day when I unleash my eventual Charlotte Church Experience rate! Haha!

Andrea was another artist we played a lot in a shop I worked at. He's an amazing vocalist & I just have some overwhelming nostalgia for him. Also, his 'Time To Say Goodbye' with Sarah never fails to give me goosebumps.

No.

Even Et C'est Parti was a flop. Yet I have not been able to flop in PJXTRA. So far all my PJ00 foreign songs are directed at PJXTRA. Unless I flop there too ddd.
This one made #3 in France (autoveto in Xtra) I believe so the only place it can go is PJ00s! I am warming up to the different rules for each contest so we can always have the regional big hits in PJ00s, and never have to miss Foreign Languages there either!

Still trimming the fat.
Hmm, let's look at today's elimination.

#32

Nek - Laura non c’è
Picked By:
@Filippa
Credentials: Gold in France and Italy, #1 in Italy, #2 in Switzerland, #3 in Austria (about 300.000 units sold)
Average Score: 7.4273
Highest Score: 10 @soratami, 10 @Remorque
Lowest Score: 5 @dancingwithmyself

Nek is kind of a one-hit-wonder in Austria. I don’t know much about him as I was never interested enough to actively listen to him. So maybe @soratami and @Remorque want to add some praise for him.

I really liked "Laura non c’è"’s lyrics back in the 90s, but today I’m not so sure. Then I somehow imagined Laura died and I found it so romantic. But now it’s clear Laura left him, but he can’t forget her and looks for her in each woman he meets. He tells his new love interest about Laura. He tells her, that if she wanted to, they could make love, but he warns her it’s not the same as with Laura. And he keeps going on and on about Laura. In the end he can’t make love because Laura is still too present (Laura c’è) ... Today I’m certainly sorry how heart-broken he still is but I really hope the woman left after the first verse and he was talking to himself after that.

Nek (Filippo Neviano) started his musical career at the age of nine when his aunt booked him some guitar lessons. He showed a remarkable ability to master the guitar and the drums along with a keen awareness of music. After some success with his band “White Lady” in which he played bass, he finally had his break-through solo at the San Remo festival in 1993. He was best newcomer of Italy in 1994 and had in 1996 with "Laura non c’è" his biggest hit. As he recorded his albums in Italian and Spanish (he is apparently fluent in Spanish and wrote the Spanish lyrics himself, too) he was successful in Spain, too. He quoted Sting as his biggest idol and I guess he tried to copy Sting’s style for a while … He sold more than 10 million records throughout his career.

What did PopJustice think?

@jtm (7.3): While this is I think his biggest hit there are hree or four of his songs (of the few I know) that are much better

@berserkboi (9.6): Too many iconic songs!!

@DominoDancing (6): Meh. Alright. Fine. Okay.

@Epic Chocolat (7): Now that I hear it, I remember the song. A good chorus, transalpine pop-rock. This animated series theme song copies the melody of the verse: Miraculous.

@saviodxl (6.8): Another male cute guy singing passionately about a woman, I'm shook! At least it's not low tempo. Nek has some cute bops, including some recent ones like 'Sube La Radio'. As for Laura Non c'e, it's a mild reaction from me.

@Filippa (8): It’s sad when you can’t let go. The song captures this feeling perfectly.

@WowWowWowWow (7): Hitting me in that sweet spot of I'm not offended by it but I'm not bouncing off the walls over it either.

@MilesAngel (8): This really grew on me. I really like his voice (he has great eyes too). I love the melody and the guitar.

@daninternational (6.5): Still feels quite modern, but not my kind of thing really

"Laura non c'è" for the French market with singer Cerena

"Sei solo tu" with Laura Pausini

"Almeno stavolta"

"La voglia che non-vorrai"

"Lascia che io sia"

Looking back - my commentary here was absolutely ridiculous without context ddd

I meant that I was already giving everything a 10/10 so Nek suffered slightly when I finally got to him on the playlist!

Back in Mauritius I had a compilation CD with this version I used to play ad nauseum - the definitive version for me (turns out I was @WowWowWowWow all along)

@livefrommelbs @iheartpoptarts @DJHazey - You might get your Saturday morning life here!!
