The 90's Billboard #1s Rate: 1990-1994 - AND WE ARE DONE

I legitimately don't get the hatred for the second half of the '90s. It's objectively better than this half.

1995-1999 is a bit R&B heavy for me, but I like most of those a lot more now than I did during the deluge.

Watch @londonrain keel over as I hand The Boy is Mine a 10.
Just so I’m clear, are you expecting sexual favours in exchange for that 10?

(Oh, sorry, did you say “keel”? I thought you said “bend”.)

Things don't really start going horribly wrong until the 2000s so the late 90s list is ok despite a bit of the Monica/Aaliyah/Ashanti/Usher/J Lo/Puddy Diddy Daddy Coombs Nate Dogg Snoop Hot Diggity Nelly Kelly Fiddy Pence Jay Ja Cool Rule RnB tedium already starting in 98.

I'd rather rate the massive list of UK 90s #1s before ever touching the US early 2000s!

I loved the weird trend of 90s R&B stars turning up in bizarre teen horror films:

Snoop Dogg (as the undead killer) in Bones
Brandy in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
Tatyana Ali in The Clown at Midnight
Aaliyah in Queen of the Damned
LL Cool J in Halloween H20/Deep Blue Sea/Mindhunters
Usher in The Faculty
Busta Rhymes in Halloween Resurrection
Kelly Rowland in Freddy vs Jason

Most of them seemed to have it written into their contracts that they couldn't die either (bar Kelly and Tatyana).

All this time I thought she was so talented for pretending to interact and dance with an animated cat and all she needed to do was her usual thing and they just removed her dance partner…...
From the post-production point of view this is actually much more impressive and I have no clue how they did it.

And Paula's usual thing is (used to be) better than most people's peak performance.

This is an example of a song I LOATHED at the time ('94?) but recently rediscovered. Teebs, it's all about the female skat-vocal, but the rest of it is also quite fun.

I used to like you.

I did think of you while writing that. The hurt I might cause. The irrevocable damage to our friendship.

I couldn't help myself I'm sorry.

Sometimes the truth has to hurt.

I don't mind it now at least.

In my defence I think I was just angry with her at the time for outselling my latest crush Cathy Dennis. Surely you can understand that?

Anyway, this is how I liked my early 1991 female piano ballads at the time….

Six weeks at #2 on my personal chart.
