The Alt-Queens Rate

He/They
I have one other rate to finish up this week, then I just might pop this on my To Do List.

How could I resist a rate where the obvious 11 is CLOUDBUSTING (even when I haven't properly heard three of the albums).

AAAAGH!!!! Do I give my 11 to a Kate track (because the Hounds of Love is possibly my favourite album ever) or to a Tori track (because about 18 months after the album came out, I was obsessed by it and I've always regretted missing that concert that occurred in the middle of my uni exams?)

I'm going to share my scores for each album over the next few days, starting with the album which received my lowest score...

To Bring You My Love

To Bring You My Love : 8
Meet Ze Monsta : 7.5
Working For The Man : 6.5
C’mon Billy : 10
Teclo : 6
Long Snake Moan : 10
Down By The Water : 9.5
I Think I’m A Mother : 4
Send His Love To Me : 8.5
The Dancer : 6.5

Average : 7.65

Why wasn't this on the album?

Just popping in to say that this rate is immediately invalidated without the presence of Fiona Apple.

The sheer chutzpah.
I feel like deciding who would be in this rate was hard enough and maybe since they did her rate last year, they were gonna let Fiona sit this one out. It would be cool to have all the 90's Lilith fair era people in their own rate one day.

It's a shame we aren't included B-Sides... Burning Bridge and Under The Ivy would add to my 10's from Hounds Of Love, infact Under The Ivy would probably be my 11.

It's AMAZING

'Under the Ivy' is one of the best songs ever recorded, period.

Recently I've been loving the Alternative version of 'Hounds of Love' which I've always paid dust - it's like it comes from another album era sandwiched in between The Dreaming and Hounds.

C'mon! Run, run, run, run, run, run honey. Run from the hounds of love! Run, run, run, run, run keep running. Run from the hounds of looooove! RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN HONEY. Run from the hounds of LOOOOOOOOVE!

Amazing.

The thing with the Hounds Of Love alternate take, is it misses the amazing "Here I Go" hook, that is so so sublime. The song suits it's speeded up nature, it feels like you have to run,

I've been lurking over here for quite some time, but it was this rate's fault that I finally convinced myself to join. I've already discovered so many great pop songs on this forum and I hope this is only the beginning (now I'm getting my life to Carly, Grimes, Beyoncé, even Taylor Swift, who would have thought?).

Having said that, this is the thread for me; it's like a sum up of what I love best about music: (more or less) indie women who scream and shout and purr their way through powerful, dramatic songs. I'm definitely biased, because one of these albums is possibly my favourite album of all time, and one of the songs is maybe my favourite song of all time, so I will make sure you all will not pay it dust.

So, hello everybody, sorry for skipping the introduction thread but none of them looked particularly exciting, right?

Hmmm I love almost all of these artists, but it isn't my favorite album of any of them. I think I'll have some #controversial opinions, but I'm excited to get into this.

I may have to do the sequel to this rate if only to get Rid of Me on the books.
