The Ashlee Simpson vs. Lindsay Lohan Rate - I Didn't Steal Your Boyfriend

he/him
Wow, so that's not actually a Britney/Lindsay collab. I'm surprised I didn't decipher it, but I was listening to some youtube upload, so you never know what quality you got there. @iheartpoptarts, now that's fun bops we shouldn't be eliminating this early.

@CasuallyCrazed - I see you've taken liking to my (7th out of 7 on album) idea from the Vanessa rate. It's helpful I'm finding, so people can keep track of how hard of a hit an album is taking.

This is legit the first (and I think only) piano ballad I have heard from her, and it actually works pretty well.

Seventeen Days - 7.5
This song didn’t have much competition in the second half of this album, so by default it’s a stand-out. I’ve said before that Ashlee’s voice really suits ballads though, and it remains true.

pop3blow2 - 7.5
Solid ballad with some nice synth strings. Not a bad way to end the record.

Unnameable - 7
A lovely ballad to close the album.

spillet - 6.5
Not one of Ashlee's strongest ballads. Bit of a snore.

niccolo - 6.2
The chord change during the final “you’ll never dream alooooonee” is so beautiful, but the rest of this song just kind of… drags? This kind of song would be a beautiful and understated vocal for someone else, but it’s kind of Ashlee’s natural milieu, so it doesn’t slaughter the heartstrings as much as it should/i want it to.

Sprockrooster - 6
A bit boring and should have been left from the album. The harmonised parts and buildup are the only good things.

orbison - 4.8
It's cute. Sweet. She does sound good, too.

CasuallyCrazed - 4
Theres a bare bones spark of something great here, but the song doesn't even really have a chorus. It almost feels like an outro or interlude.

DJ Hazey - 2
This is soo bland and Ashlee also sounds rough.

Ooh. Yes. I imagined Never Dream Alone being a song killing to mamy faves in the process. Glad it is out (though there is worse in her discography).

Urgh, I wish I had spent more time on this! I'm rethinking some of my scores now. I was in the middle of exams.

Just listening to the Dave Aude remix of Confessions of a Broken Heart....it knocks.

What in the world did you do to the original then????

@Sprockrooster and @Remorque, we have a possible emergency on our hands.

Oh and that deflated balloon of a ballad can go and not let the door hit ha where the good Lord split ha.

One more for today...

I mean, can I symbolically make this my 11? Look, it was a close to a 11 as I could go, knowing that it’s an optional extra & will probably get chucked out of the rate quickly. I love this medley. LOVE IT. I love her vocal, I love the the concept behind how it’s used in the movie. I that it contains a fake hit by her favorite fake band created for the film. I adore the earnestness of her fandom in the movie. That was me in high school (who am I kidding, that's me now). Oh, Alison Pill, too. Goodness. I just want to mention her name in a PJ rate.

I just adore this movie. The music, The concept. The performances, especially Lindsay’s. It’s her best of that era, IMO & it’s a crime the movie wasn’t a bigger hit. This song defines a moment for me & I will forever be grateful to it. I was in a pretty bad mental state when it came out & the joy it gave me will always hold a special place in my heart.

RUNAWAY - 9
The teenage gay boy me LIVED for this medley. I STILL get my life to it every time I watch that movie (which is often).

Music is Life - 9
Ugh. Iconic. I love the growl she does in Don’t Move On. Living… is such a fun bop and I wish there was full version of it.

CasuallyCrazed - 7.5
I remember being physically angry that the full version of "Don't Move On" wasn't on the OST. It may only last 49 seconds but it still might be the most orchestrally cinematic moment of Lindsay's whole career.

Sprockrooster - 7.0
The best part is 'Changes', but they are all great, but all too short too. A medley of three songs shouldn't be just over 2 minutes long...

Seventeen Days - 5.5
The first two parts of the medley are great (in fact, I would love to hear her do a full cover of “Living for the City”). But the “Changes” portion just feels tacked on, and kind of ruins the vibe of this.

DJ Hazey - 4
While the other songs from this film have sounded like incredible pop songs, these definitely sound like they were made for the film and I can't rate them that highly because of that.

unnamable

A medley that manages to defile Stevie Wonder and David Bowie. I couldn’t rate it lower as it’s at least technically competent.

iheartpoptarts - 2
I have no idea what to do with this, but at the end of the day I wouldn’t go back and listen to it or anything.

orbison - 0
David Bowie's about to curse me just for listening to this.
