The Ashlee Simpson vs. Lindsay Lohan Rate - I Didn't Steal Your Boyfriend

Guys, our first 11 is already about to leave at #63...

giphy-downsized-large.gif

So who is it?

Who bestowed their one holy 11 on a bottom 30 outcast?

tenor.gif

Nope, it's not Dina Lohan 11-ing "Walka Not a Talka."

Lindsay, you're safe.

Time to say goodbye...

Say Goodbye
6.618

(12th out of 15 from I Am Me)

Highest: 11 x 1 (@Seventeen Days), 9.3 (@Untouchable Ace)
Lowest: 3 (@Ana Raquel, @niccolo)

Seventeen Days - 11

This song really lingered with me after my first play of I Am Me, and to this day remains my favorite Ashlee Simpson song. Her vocals are strong, yet vulnerable, and the lyrics paint a painful picture of knowing when it’s time to end a relationship. The synths really add to the mood of the track too.

Untouchable Ace - 9.3
Subtly 80's.

pop3blow2 - 8.5
Nice little song & softer coda to the album. Very 80’s on some of the production choices, but still works in the sound of the album. She’s surprisingly versatile as a singer. I mean, I know she gets a little screechy sometimes, but there’s an amazing amount of control in her voice in parts of this song.. but she still gives it an edge. I will defend Ashlee till then ends of the earth, people!

unnameable - 8
I enjoy a good Ashlee heartbreak number.

Music is Life - 8
This was good, and a great pick for the closing standard track.

Sprockrooster - 7
A bit boring at some point. It starts of rather nicely though.

orbison - 6
This is actually pretty cute. I was ready to write a snarky comment like "I AM READY TO SAY GOODBYE TO THIS ALBUM," but this is good.

imaduck - 6.5
The lyrics are hilariously bad or hilariously cliche, but the song is decent.

CasuallyCrazed
- 5.5
I remember loving this at the time, but I don't think I've come back to it in 12 years, even all the japanese walmart edition bonus tracks are more memorable.

DJHazey - 5
*waves lighter back and forth slowly* Pretty dull.

niccolo - 3
I honestly only sort of remember this and playing it again is only bringing back memories of skipping it back in the day.

Walka Not A Talka (feat. Snoop Dogg)
6.725

*Unreleased*

Highest: 10 (@Sprockrooster)
Lowest: 2 (@Seventeen Days)

Sprockrooster - 10
WHAT? I had no idea that the Mya song had a version with Lindsay. Consider this a big discovery!

DJHazey - 9
I was a bit worried because I'm not usually into many songs with a Snoop Dogg feature, but this is a straight up bop. Give me that DEV-style trashy pop I need.

spillet - 8.5
A little Paris Hilton vibe going on here, would have fit easily onto Paris' album. It's a catchy track with bags of attitude.

Runaway - 8
Jam. SO fucking trashy. I would have LIVED for this if it had been released.

Music is Life - 8
This was fun. I like the Middle-Eastern lite production.

orbison - 7.6
I live for basic bops like these. It's a terrible song, yet here I am giving it almost an 8. Originally I did give it an 8, but then I came into my senses.

CasuallyCrazed - 7
This is honestly kind of Blackout-esque, except Lindsay doesn't quite have the conviction to pull off full Gangsta ("G's up, G's up"). For the longest time I thought she was singing "SHAKE YOUR TATERS UP" instead of "Shake these haters off." Also, Snoop actually throws down some fire in that verse, it's a shame it never came out.

pop3blow2 - 6
Well, there this. A little too wannabe Britney for me. Pass.

unnameable - 5
Is the “JR” name-checked at the start the same one who did “I want you” with Paris Hilton? He sure gets around those celebrities. This is OK but Snoop really phoned it in.

Untouchable Ace - 3.4
That openning horn whenever I hear it in anything, is just too hilarious this song is pretty laughable.

iheartpoptarts - 3
Which video game desert is this?

Seventeen Days
- 2
I got 30 seconds into this and that was all I needed. Thank u, next.

This has become one of my favorite Ashlee tracks, especially because of that reverberating guitar intro. The melody and pacing is great, and Ashlee has a quality in her vocals that really sells the emotion of it.

Sprockrooster - 10
A true moment on the album and breaking a chain of weaker tracks. The production is absolutely magnificent and draws me in immediately. I love how Ashlee is using her voice on this. A true missed opportunity for an amazing single. Then again it is always a big moment when you find an amazing album track and it empowers the album with ease.

DJHazey - 10
This has always been a favorite. It has that melancholy narrative working magic for it, reminds me of Avril's "Nobody's Home" for some reason. At least I'd have them on the same playlist.

spillet - 8
This always reminds me of something from Avril's debut, it's like the sister track to 'I'm with You'.

CasuallyCrazed - 9
Always been a minor / forgotten favorite from her catalog -- it's so wistful and longing and DARK. Oh my god it's dark.

Music is Life - 8
Kind of lost interest in this, than paid more attention to it. It's pretty good, and kind of feels really dark lyrically, or is that just me?

Untouchable Ace - 7.1
Did she just sing lead vocals on a Coldplay song?

pop3blow2 - 7
Meh, this song is ok. Prob my least fave on the record. It’s a little too ‘Avril-try-hard’. Ironically, for someone who became the poster child of ‘manufactured pop’ to some, most of this album only reminds me of Ashlee Simpson… and not a label created artist just blatantly repackaging the sonics others. This song though…. pass.

unnameable - 6.5
I enjoy the chorus.

imaduck - 5
Those opening guitars are so 2004, I LOVE IT, you would not get away with this anymore.

iheartpoptarts - 5
This album is very singles and filler. Though a lot of debuts are like that, to be fair.

niccolo - 4
Ohh girl’s getting serious singing about absentee parents? someone money obsessed? a drug addict? is this all the same person or are they different people? This and Unreachable belong not on this album, in my opinion. There are other superior tracks in the wings that deserved more.

orbison
- 2
Filler, filler filler.

*From Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen*

Highest: 9.5 (@nebojsa, @Music Is Life)
Lowest: 2 (@orbison)

Music is Life - 9.5
Kinda cheesy, but I don't care. Still catchy, and has good production.

pop3blow2 - 8.5
Another really solid effort from COATDQ. It’s a solid tune that made the rounds, being done by several artists. It woks well in the context of the film & Lindsay does a good job with it.

unnameable - 8
An interesting choice to recycle the inspirational song used by a member of Bardot when they tried to go solo, but clearly Lindsay is so eco-friendly she recycles prime tunes.

imaduck - 8
BRATZ, this is the fucking bratz song, I forgot about that album, this album is unreal right? someone please remember how good the Bratz Rock Angels were, that album belongs in this rate.

Seventeen Days - 7.25
Lindsay should have nabbed this for inclusion on ‘Speak’ and replaced one of the filler tracks. This is pretty good.

Sprockrooster - 7
Nothing too special.

iheartpoptarts - 6
Those YouTube people talking about the Bratz soundtrack kind of make my life.

DJHazey - 5
Just kind of there. I'm so happy I didn't have to have similar commentary for like 90% of her songs.

CasuallyCrazed - 3
I... don't like this. Completely drowned out by backup singers and sounds like a rejected Hilary scrap from Metamorphosis.

orbison - 2
I'm waiting for this song to end so I can play Gwen's song that shares the same title but it's actually a 10/10.

he/him
How in the world did that make it this far?

imaduck - 8
BRATZ, this is the fucking bratz song, I forgot about that album, this album is unreal right? someone please remember how good the Bratz Rock Angels were, that album belongs in this rate.

Ha, this feels like something @iheartpoptarts would be able to give a dissertation about.

*F.Y.E. Bonus Track*

Highest:

Sprockrooster - 10
A fucking crime it is not the main album. And yes it might be sonically a rip off from Stars Are Blind. Before the claws are out, Stars Are Blind is a 10 too. I love both! The more produced vibe compared to the Paris track is an easy fit on the main album. This was an early fave of mine from this album and I am sad I never got my hands on the physical version containing this album.

iheartpoptarts - 9
Takes a while to get to the chorus but it’s so worth it.

Music is Life - 9
Really like this song, it has a pretty good message, and I like the production, as with most of this album.

pop3blow2 - 8
Again, this fits so much better than a few other track the made Bittersweet World. Maybe a tad too ‘rocky’ overall, but it works. Why can’t I get the final say on what makes every pop artist’s final album tracklisting? Is that too much to ask?

spillet - 8
This would have made a lovely closing song on Bittersweet World. Missed opportunity there.

niccolo - 7.3
I actually appreciate this song more now. It’s a very good bridge from the past album to this one. Her voice is more developed than it was on I Am Me but it’s still that more rock vibe. The drums are kind of hectic, which ruin it a bit for me

unnameable - 7
The extras seem better than a couple of the album tracks.

DJHazey - 6
Love how she opens sounding like Paris a bit a we're going somewhere. Unfortunately the 'chorus makes up most a good pop song' rule had to click in because it just lost it all there.

Seventeen Days - 5
Bonus track for a reason, teebs. But I do like the rhythm on this.

CasuallyCrazed - 5
Why do some of the Bittersweet World tracks have such bare-bones production? Demo city, but the sassy chorus almost saves it.

orbison - 2
No. no. no. no. Another bside, another terrible chorus.

Love apparently DOESN'T make the world go round.

(10th out of 16 from Autobiography)

Highest: 9 (@Music Is Life, @Sprockrooster)
Lowest: 4 (@Ana Raquel, @imaduck)

Sprockrooster - 9
The clear definition of a zeroes poprock midtempo banger. Nothing that unique, but performed brilliantly making it a great track nonetheless.

Music is Life - 9
This is good, but not as good, or as fun as Madonna's, which I know is a dumb comparison, but it was the first thing that popped into my head. Okay, but it's actually a bit better than I initially thought, so let's bring it up half a point.

pop3blow2 - 8
Nice tune on this album track. I mean, the melody to this song is basically Jimmy Eat World’s ’The Middle’ , but shhhh.

Seventeen Days - 7.25
This track was a sleeper for me when I first bought this album. It took a while to grow on me, but once I got into it I really liked it.

CasuallyCrazed - 7
This is like her "Lift Me Up." I want to drive through Malibu in a top down convertible. But much like Geri, I cringe a bit when she can't quite hit the high notes in the chorus.

unnameable - 7
“Pleasant.”

DJHazey - 6
I have no recollection of this one at all, which is bad news for an artist I love as much I do. A tad better than Shadow but still cut from the same cloth.

niccolo - 6
The live, acoustic version pops a bit but the album version is drab.

imaduck - 4
This does not sound great anymore, the wall of sound is REAL.

orbison - 4
Filler track.
