We've officially reached the part of the rate where a perfectly-serviceable 7 now counts as a low score. Shit's getting real! And Ricki-Lee's 2013 dance-pop barnstormer 'Come & Get In Trouble With Me' is the first of our semi-final songs to tap out.
To be honest gals, I'm actually surprised this one even made the top 10 in the first place! Don't get me wrong, I stan Ricki and the song is a mega-bop, but it just seemed like the sort of track we'd lose around the #20 mark. I certainly thought 'Can't Touch It' would last longer. But what do I do know?!
'Come & Get In Trouble With Me' was released in 2013, the first taste of new music from the good sis after she came back in a major way with her
Fear & Freedom era. Riding high on her status as a newly-minted local gay icon, the relentless dance banger saw Ricki playing to her dance pop strengths and continuing to give the gays everything they want (.gif). You've got to hand it to Ms. Coulter, she knows how to market herself. Dropping an uptempo EDM track is not enough. We want glamour on the single cover! We want choreography! We want hot men in your video! We want our pop diva entering a club naked on a horse!
And that's exactly what Ricki-Lee gave us with this track. Of course, we're a fickle bunch - so the project only peaked at #28 on the charts and never kicked off a new album or anything. Maybe it wasn't to, who knows. Either way, the track's getting its dues in this here rate of ours!
I scored it an 8.5, primarily because it never reaches the heights of Ricki's most iconic tracks for me. The verses just a little... lethargic or something. Like there are too many words in the melody or something. But that chorus is DELICIOUS and Ricki sounds flawless on the 'Oh baby!' hook. The production hits hard too in that distinctly knock-your-head-around 2013 way. Best of all? Those
angelic 'Woo-ooh-ooh-ooh's that Ricki gives us in the middle eight. Out. Fucking. Standing.
Credit must especially given to the video - even though it received a bit of a mixed reception from some of Ricki's more... modest fans. The whole affair just likes super expensive, playing out like some disco drag fantasyland that I absolutely
need to go to. Visually speaking, it's one of the rate's proper POPSTAR moments.
With 'Come & Get In Trouble With Me' out, Ricki-Lee only has the titanic 'Raining Diamonds' remaining. What do you think? Does her last song standing have what it takes to go all the way?
@berserkboi (10) is having a bit of a temporal crisis (but bopping anyway) -
Not this being 8 years old!! I thought she just released it! My ancient saggy ass!! Ddddddd
@Untouchable Ace (9.1) is thinkin' bout what could have been - An almost there lead single for a sadly almost there album that many times never happened.
@pop3blow2 (9.1) might have gotten in trouble with his score for 'Fireman', but he's redeemed himself here -
This might actually be my fave of the Ricki songs here. Her voice sounds good against this production.
Did anybody see a stray wig in the video? It probably belongs to
@Sprockrooster (9) -
Wig at that middle-8/outro
@Music Is Life (9) has gotten some quite frankly VERY CHEEKY ideas from the song's title -
I want a sexy bad boy to say this to me. Take your pick, there were a few in the vid.
...but you might have to fight
@daninternational (7) for one of them -
Milkshakes, burgers and fries; making out all night. Lyrical genius. I need the instagram of that topless dancer. Y'all need Jesus.
