◢ ◤ The Avicii Discography Rate ◢ ◤ WINNER!

Like what?

Heart Upon My Sleeve... for starters and probably an unpopular opinion but also "Always on The Run"

My 2nd lowest rated song is a huge favorite so I won't name it, since I'm expecting it to make top 20.

Today is @OspreyQueen ‘s lucky day.

Definitely wouldn’t mind losing Feeling Good, What Would I Change It To and Liar Liar.

It's gotta be Liar Liar hasn't it?

Follow you to dust
Leaving footprints on the clouds as we're walking home
Iron hearts all turn to rust
By tears and the days on a diamond street
Is this apocalypse?
Chasing shadows, living dreams that don't exist
Anymore...
We need to find a way...

Liar Liar

Average: 6.741

Low Scorers: 4.5x2 (@OspreyQueen, @Robsolete)
Liar Liar was written by Avicii, his long-time manager Ash Pournouri, the brother-sister duo of Bruce and Erica Driscoll (who until 2015, comprised the indie pop act Blondfire; currently it’s just Erica), and others (including Wake Me Up vocalist Aloe Blacc who can be heard providing the track’s “Liar Liar” refrain that scared off some of our voters). As some of you referenced in your commentary, this feels like two separate songs - the Erica’s chill, delicate vocals over somewhat clunky lyrics (excerpted above), then the startling “LIAR LIAR!” chorus interspersed in between.

What did y’all have to say about this one?

Not a fan.

@WowWowWowWow (5) - The LIAR LIAR!!! at the start of the song scared me too much to give this an above-average ranking.

@Empty Shoebox (5) - This is just dull and non-distinctive.

@LiK (7) - Verses are good, everything else arounds them drags this down.

“Interesting.”

@Raichu (7) - A weird Frankenstein and I can see how the male vocals would be grating for some, but for me, this definitely one of the more interesting cuts on this album.

@Sprockrooster (7) - Loving the production elements a lot and for once I am appreciating the male vocals in a song more than the female one (as that whisper things she has going on isn't working for me; unless you are Janet).

@berserkboi (8.7) - Great sound!

@Filippa (10) - A very interesting and somehow even rocky song. And I really love the soft vocals of Erica Driscoll.

Next up: we figure out if True or Stories will lose two more tracks before the top 30.

I think that’s every song here I particularly dislike gone. Nice.

And now we toss out something I particularly dislike, yay!

I want you to touch mayyyhhhh

Touch Me

Average: 6.850
Standard Deviation: 1.635
High Scorers: 10x1 (@Filippa), 9x1 (@Blond)
Low Scorers: 4x1 (@SuperNerd), 4.3x1 (@Untouchable Ace), 5x3 (@Raichu, @ohnostalgia, @Mina)

And it’s back to a Stories cull, with poor @Filippa losing yet another one of her 10s. Touch Me, the album’s third track, was written by a team including Avicii, Ash Pournouri, and the song’s vocalist, UK singer Celeste Waite. I wasn’t a fan of this one; it’s basically the same line repeated ad nauseum with peppy background music blaring. I'm surprised I gave it all of five points. Oh well.

What did y’all have to say about this?

Praise:

@Filippa (10) - I like the sound of this song. It’s so funky with somehow brassy vocals. Daft Punk like.

@Blond (9) - The singer is amazing and the production is phenomenal.

@berserkboi (8.9) - Liked it a fair bit by the end

Nah, not so much:

@WowWowWowWow (7) - Okurr Avicii trying to give Bruno Mars a run for his money but not really getting there.

@londonrain (7) - Competent.

@Sprockrooster (6) - A bit MOR.

@Empty Shoebox (6) - It's just not Samantha Fox, is it?

Next up: we lose not one but TWO more Stories tracks in a row. Someone’s 11 is among them.

You missed out my one-word commentary for Touch Me, @Mina:

“Competent.”

Dddd, added!

While we're at it, let's find out which song just misses our top 30:

Some nights I talk to myself
I said the words that I can't say to no one else
And some nights I talk in my sleep
I shout the words I never said when you were with me

Talk to Myself

Average: 6.950

Low Scorers: 3x1 (@SuperNerd), 4x2 (@Sprockrooster, @Blond)
Our final exit before the top 30 is Stories’ second track, Talk To Myself. Featuring an uncredited vocal from Sterling Fox (who you may recall from his largely panned vocal performance on True’s Shame On Me, our first elimination of the rate), it has an ‘80s throwback quality to me - though y’all threw out references (but not necessarily compliments) including Daft Punk, Clean Bandit, Maroon 5, and Sting.

What did y’all have to say about this one?

Pleasant.

@Untouchable Ace (10) - A production beyond anything else he has done.

@berserkboi (9.4) - Wonderfully pleasant

@LiK (8) - I love Daft Punk so I just pretend this is one of their songs too.

Meh.

@Raichu (6.5) - Reminds me of Clean Bandit. I’d score it a bit higher if the vocalist was more pleasant to listen to. He sounds like Adam Levine, which is not a good thing.

No.

@Empty Shoebox (5) - I consider this record completely unremarkable.

@Blond (4) - This gives me Maroon 5/ Sting vibes and I mean neither as a compliment.

@Sprockrooster (4) - Not loving that voice, which makes me no fan of this song consequently.

Next: We cross the 7.0 average threshold, and also toss out our first 11.
