◢ ◤ The Avicii Discography Rate ◢ ◤ WINNER!

One more for tonight...

My guess (and probably overall pick for bottom) would be Rapture, only because it has nothing on the original that hit #2 in the UK

Poor Nadia should have left her flawless classic untouched!

Okay (don't expect my to say this in the other rate) but Rapture needs to go!

That long anticipated exit is certainly not about me as Rapture is sure to make the top 20 at this rate!

Feel free to chuck Nadia out anytime!

Nadia really needs to go!

That has to be Nadia! Who would give that version of Rapture a 10 when the original exists! Right??

bloody Nadia!!

I would be bewildered with Nadia getting an 11

Nadia beat The Days???? What is wrong with you all?? Should have tanked her instead of giving her a fair score!

That's like the worst scenario if Rapture makes top 10

The night I laid my eyes on you
Felt everything around me move
Got nervous when you looked my way
But you knew all the words to say

Then your love slowly moved right in
All this time, oh my love, where you been?

Mi amore don't you know
My love I want you so
Sugar, you make my soul complete
Rapture tastes so sweet

Nadia Ali - Rapture (Avicii New Generation Remix)

hqdefault.jpg

Average: 7.923
Standard Deviation: 2.148
High Scorers: 10x5 (@phily693, @Sprockrooster, @londonrain, @Blond, @Untouchable Ace), 9.5x2 (@HarryEzra, @Petit nain des Îles), 9x5 (@LiK, @Eric, @OspreyQueen, @Empty Shoebox, @Mina) (that’s 12/22, or 55%, of us who gave the song a score of 9 or higher!)
Low Scorers: 3x1 (@Filippa), 4x2 (@Remyky22, @Raichu), 6x2 (@Oleander, @WowWowWowWow), 7x2 (@Robsolete, @SuperNerd), 7.3x1 (@berserkboi)

@berserkboi has been calling for the exit of Rapture since the reveals began, though he gave it a 7.3 and was far from its low scorer! To be fair, @berserkboi only gave ONE lower score in the entire rate - a 7.2 - to a song still left in the running (and spoiler alert - he’ll be far from the lowest scorer on that one as well).

For anyone still unaware, Rapture started off as a dance/trance song by iiO, an NYC-based recording duo composed of producer Markus Moser and Pakistani-American singer Nadia Ali. It was the most successful single release of their career, peaking at #2 on the UK singles chart in 2001 (hence its inclusion in @WowWowWowWow ‘s current rate!), also #2 in Scotland and Romania, #3 in Australia, Greece, and Portugal, #4 in Canada...and #44 on the US Billboard Hot 100. iiO would take another four years before releasing their only album - Poetica - in 2005, which included Rapture as well as other highlights like At the End (that my lovely backup host @Untouchable Ace was vetoed from trying to enter into PJ00s - too damn chart-successful!).

After iiO parted ways, Nadia Ali embarked on a solo career, and in doing so decided to re-release Rapture in 2010. She chose three up-and-coming EDM producers to remix the track - Avicii (before he had risen to worldwide fame - this was before Levels), Gareth Emery, and Tristan Garner - and each produced their own remixes. Avicii’s mix is the best-known of the three and was promoted through a music video release. This version was less commercially successful than the original, peaking at #40 on the UK singles chart and not charting in the US. I obviously prefer the original mix of the track, but still y’all, this exit came #toosoon. If it weren’t for a few pesky low scorers (excluding our very own @berserkboi, who actually didn’t tank this at all!), this song would have fared better.

Let’s start with the non-fans:

@Raichu (4) - The most generic thing here by far.

@WowWowWowWow (6) - Miamore don't you know, this was not necessary at all.

Et tu, @WowWowWowWow?!?!?

The semi-fans:

@berserkboi (7.3) - Nothing on the original, I must say.

@OspreyQueen (9) - I actually thought this was a cover of a Bananarama album track until I looked it up oops - Noooooooo. *cries*

The true fans:

@Empty Shoebox (9) - I really liked the original version of this song, and this version hasn't done anything to change my mind on that.

@Eric (9) - I expected not to like this, but it’s actually a really good reworking of the track.

@Petit nain des Îles (9.5) - I'm gonna need a mashup with "Spending All My Time" by Perfume.

@Untouchable Ace (10) - I could not not 10 any form of Rapture.

@Sprockrooster (10) - I stan the original hard. And this upbeated version makes it so fresh or let me be extra and say it tastes so sweet.

@londonrain (10) - Still not as good as the original but what a song. Nadia singing “la la la” is about 10x better than the lyrics on several of these other songs.

@phily693 (10) - This was almost my 11. Like so many other of his songs, this was huge when I first started going to clubs and anytime I hear it, it takes me back. The original of this is already such a fantastic song, but his remix is absolutely amazing and elevates it even more. Even the little flourishes hidden in the production give me life.

@Blond (10) - This is how to do a remix.

Official Music Video:

Original iiO version - vote for it in @WowWowWowWow ‘s UK #2s rate!

A gorgeous acoustic rendition of the song:

Next up: 2 more singles to go, and we’re through to the top 10.
