Anyone watched this? I just flew through the first series in a week. It’s had mad acclaim since it’s release - 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and The Guardian’s #1 show of the year.

I really loved it. Razor sharp dialogue, brisk pace, engaging characters. Really well acted across the board. Total slice of life vibes - it’s just about spending time with the characters rather than waiting for what’s gonna happen next. Episode 7 is a real show-stopper. It’s a Boiling Point-esque 30 minute real-time long take of a shift at the restaurant, absolutely amazing television. Can see this doing really, really well at the Emmy’s.

Fantastic television. I found it a difficult watch at times - so many broken individuals clashing with each other - but that's also what made it so compelling.

I'm not very optimistic about the twist at the end of the season. It felt a bit hackneyed for such a thoughtful show. Hopefully it only provides more problems and strife in season two.

I know what you mean, it was a bit of a Hollywood ending considering how gritty and grounded it had been up until that point.

I struggled with the first episode and turned it off, it was basically CONSTANT SHOUTING ALL THE WAY THRU. Maybe I'll return to it.

It was the best show of 2022 other than Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

Let it rip.

It would have been perfect as a stand alone series, but i'll take a season 2.

I work in restaurants in the US and when I tell you that I am grocery shopping and say 'corner' as I change aisles.

The show is so good, there were so many nods to things that actually happen with restaurant staff (the plastic quart containers being used as cups and 'fuck brunch' were two standouts for me). I'm so glad that Jeremy Allen White is getting the recognition he deserves after being overlooked for years on Shameless.

I also think the twist at the end of season one was done, possibly, so it was 'tied up' if the show didn't get renewed because I know it wasn't an immediate renewal for a second season. I definitely think it's going to bring more problems though.

Just finished the first season and what a phenomenal season it was. The characters are so layered and complex, made for a completely gripping watch. At times it was hard to watch but enthralling all at the same time. Agreed that the end seemed a little out of tone but I think they wanted to provide some sort of closure in case it only lasted 8 episodes. Glad we’re going to get more, the characters aren’t all suddenly healed and I’m sure the problems for the restaurant will remain.
