  4. I've watched the Usher, Megan and DaBaby performances so far and they're great so far (this is the first time I really took notice of Megan's strong presence as an artist), though the latter two feel more like music videos than "live" performances.

The Usher performance conveys "live show" better, but then again, if all performances were like this, it might come off as a snoozefest show. Maybe Katy's performance at American Idol would be a good standard in balancing nice pop visuals with a "live” atmosphere? I wish Bey would perform somewhere to show what is possible, too.

  5. The other award shows better be taking notes, because this is how a virtual award show is done.

Megan just snatched every hair off of my body. I loved it, she did that.

  6. I love that some of the performances feel like music videos. The budget, the creativity...this is really proving music award shows are possible in this current world.

  7. I was ready for BET to fuck this up but they have now set the standard for award shows going forward while we are in a pandemic. It looked classy, had stellar performance production value, and Amanda Seales was the perfect host, matching funny and witty with serious and composed.

John Legend’s performance set the bar for me early on production wise and then ChloexHalle and Megan came and destroyed everyone.

  8. Chloe x Halle and Megan ate. The others... beautiful gowns.

  9. Chloe x Halle are giving me...Lizzo, Little Mix, etc. a few years ago who you were just so excited to see every new performance of the same single. Besides Dua, I can't think of another act who put so much effort into reimagining every performance of the single.

  10. Really enjoyed the whole show it was worth staying up late for . I agree the other awards shows better be taking notes as that’s how you pull off a virtual award show. Most performances felt like music videos !

A few questionable winners but ok on the whole . Chloe and Halle were robbed of winning best group imo . I like Lizzo but her winning best Female Rnb over Summer, Jhene , Kehlani, and H.E.R is confusing to me . Also would have liked Summer Walker to win something her album was great and one of my faves from last year .

  11. I caught parts of this, and they really knocked it out of the park. VMAs better be taking notes.

  12. I was just thinking... Covid might actually make the VMA's fun again?! If people take cues from Meg and DaBaby and serve music-video level performances, it could be a great night. Without the restraints of being on a stage, there's so much that artists can do. A lineup of Dua, Meg, DaBaby, Gaga, Katy, The Weeknd, Roddy Ricch, etc. could give us some of the most interesting VMA performances in ages.

  13. Megan's performance was incredible. The staging/styling/setting reminded me a lot of California Love.
