Back in 2012, when they were first performing Gran Turismo in full for festivals he declined to participate. I'm not clearly exactly as to the reason why he decided not to join them, I would assume some type of other work commitment.

He makes more money in the studio writing for all the biggest pop stars than going on tour with them, that’s why.

Tangential, but James Yorkston has one of my favourite voices. Seen him live a few times, in some fairly small places, absolute best may have been hearing him play a few songs acoustically in a record shop, sat on the counter with his acoustic guitar and unamplified voice. Brilliant.
