Best Bit: The end
This song is just awful. Full disclosure: because this was left off of the US version I’d hardly ever listened to it, I probably heard it one years ago and never looked back. When I reviewed it again for this rate it made complete sense to me why I never bothered to download it. It’s
really bad. I greatly enjoyed a life in which this album didn’t have a title track, but rather ‘The Family Jewels’ as a title made perfect sense once you let the music speak for itself.
For an album this good it is kind of odd the title track is this weak -
@Sprockrooster
Feels like it could be a bonus track, I always wish she'd finished the album at Numb to be honest. –
@Terminus
it's not balls, but it's not the dog's bollocks either –

Myspace demo realness -

This is actually my first time hearing this one (floppy fan). Kind of sounds like something that would fit in Froot actually. This song would have to grow on me after more than just a few plays here, as I am finding the chorus is bit jarring for some reason. -

Best Bit: Here come the girls!
Girls is the first single off of the silver certified album Catfights and Spotlights. Clearly influenced by the recent popularity of Mark Ronson it lit up the charts going no. 3 in the UK and reaching no. 10 in the Czech Republic.
Heidi is a capable singer! –
@Island
I really liked this when I first heard it. I think there is a slightly different version then the one on the album? –

Best Bit:I was just a kid and all I really wanted was my father
You have to wonder if this confession of leaving a dog to die is a real life one? If not, it would be kind of strange example to use as a backdrop for a song about guilt. I tend to believe that this something that really happened to her and she wanted to get it out of her system. I love how the song really makes you feel like you are "on the run", because Marina sells how affected she is with every chilling "Guilty" and I'm really struck by that. –
@DJHazey
Basically, but does anyone really know what’s going on in this song?
As one might expect from a some about killing a technicolour dog, this isn't exactly an easy listen or one I return to much but I appreciate how relentlessly raw and intense it is. The line about her father suggests a piece of the puzzle we've never really heard much of since and feels noteworthy for that fact alone. - @IMHO
Well there’s a start, but do you guys think it’s any good?
Somewhat a standout -

Oh.
