The Diamond Rate: The Finale

Is The Family Jewels safe for now?

Someone please finish off this page so I can post the next results.

OH MY GOODNESS.

I was listening to Bubblegum Bitch, and the song synced just as I saw that image. Truly a sign as I was just about to post this: when I saw Marina in 2012 my friends and I met her before the show and we were saying how much we love Living Dead and we asked her to play it and my girl did!

She was really nice and was talking about how she met some of us outside the venue. The only part of her speech captured was the part where she's explaining that we really wanted to hear it and it was a coincidence because she was going to perform it (she was rotating between Hypocrates and Living Dead.) My friends and I were scared she'd go for Hypocrates. Truly amazing she performed it. We gave her this little popcorn bucket and all this hollywood movie-esque stuff. She kept it, and later when she went on her second leg of the tour she used it to douce people with glitter like holy water.

3:10. I only found out cause my friend I traveled to Austin. Seeing it before the show was truly a moment. That she would keep something like that and use it on tour was a weird feeling. It made us very happy.

Long post summed up: this rate made me really love her and appreciate her. I'm so happy to see her on tour in September.

44. Electra Heart

Score: 6.70
Host’s Score: 8.5
Highest: 10 X 4 (@Island, @Jacques, @Sprockrooster, @TheAlmightyAloud )
Lowest: 2 x 1 (@HeartSwells)
Best Bit: For forgiveness you could always pray, that the sickness it will go away.

I’m sorry, as soon as I found it I could not resist. I do really like this song though, I know people find it to be a glorified interlude, but the I think the simplistic nature of the song works to it’s advantage. It’s manic and feels like a repressed spirit lashing out for all the years spent trapped as a housewife, beauty kween, homewrecker or idle teen. In other words, I think it perfectly captured where the era was when it was released, and I though the video was a brilliant way to kill off Electra Heart.

Very dramatic production considering the religious undertones to this song. Electra is something full of light, in this case Marina. She has gone into a world full of dark and now the light parts of the world only blind her. This seems to parallel living the holy life or living an unholy one. Marina's religious upbringing made her full of light, but somewhere along the line she may have lost her way and done things that her God would frown upon. This transitions into her asking for forgiveness in the second verse. Amazing metaphors again from our Queen of the Lyrical Artform. -- @DJHazey

"LIGHTS. THEY. BLIND. ME!" That's it, that's the best the 'song' has to offer so let's not leave it hanging about for too long, eh? - @IMHO

I know it was the perfect way to finish the era, but I enjoy it more than half it's named after album. The backing is great, it's all a little uncomfortable, but that's part of it's charm. - @Terminus

This is just perfect and so close for my 11! - @Sprockrooster

Her most underrated track? Would’ve loved this to have been on the main album, better than half of it! - @2014

43. Just Desserts

Best Bit: I gave you too much, gave you too much to touch

I loved this song when it came out, I was peak Charli stan mode when True Romance came out and Electra Heart was already my album of the year. The thought of the two of them together just blew my mind, and I think they made an entirely serviceable track. Sure it sounds like Marina was in the other room when this was recorded, but it was a gift to the fans and a way to promote their tour. It's a pretty fucking good freeby huh? Anyway Charli sounds really sexy when she raps and when Marina sings over here it just gives me life.

it's no 'I Love It' is it? - @Filler

Interesting take on the idea of the girl flipping the script so to speak and breaking the guy's heart; clearly he can't handle it. - @DJHazey

More collaborations like this in future please. - @Can't Speak French

Charli XCX sounds like she has a really sore throat which drags this song down - @munro

Kind of sounds like it’s being held together with rusty staples, but I still enjoy it quite a bit. Daniel!

this would be more disappointing if it wasn't so easy to ignore. It's not bad in b-side kid of way but for all the potential such a collaboration should have held, it does end up feeling much weaker than the sum of its parts. - @IMHO

How is Guilty not out first?

You and I were at the same show @flapjack- !! I about died when she sang Living Dead too. Seriously.
Yeah! I remember I think I saw you post on the forum talking about it. I think my friend talked to you in some sort of Facebook group she was a part of at the time. We were excited that someone else was just as excited as us.

Okay with Electra Heart leaving, but Just Desserts should've been a bit higher. I thought it was trash when I first heard it, but late last year I gave it another chance and actually loved it.

Just a heads up @Jwentz, I gave Electra Heart a 2.5 so should be the lowest scorer.

I love Jest Desserts. It's a real grower. Was very unimpressed when it premiered but it snuck up on me. It's an understated, cool cut.

Electra Heart is my highest score to go so far (7). Just Desserts is shit. Still remarkably unbothered.

Aw, those tracks shouldn't have been out quite yet. 'How to Be a Heartbreaker' is begging for a beating.
Everything that's been booted so far has been made up of largely superfluous bonuses and Girls, which has long since been generally accepted as one of her weakest tracks across the board. Clearing them out of the way before so that we can get stuck into her albums proper just feels right. Only Guilty going so early feels a bit off, as it's at least more substantial than these other non-canon curios that have fallen so far but I never expected it particularly well either.

Heartbreaker could hold on for a little while yet just by virtue of being a straightforward bop. I expect a couple more from the latter half of her debut will fall first.

Arrrgh I knew I should have given 'Just Desserts' a 10. I honestly had no idea who Charli XCX was until that track came out and I still assumed she was a female rapper.

That 'Electra Heart' cover is a thing of beauty.
