What happened IRL?
Iiris & Agoh qualified for the Eesti Laul final, receiving the second highest amount of jury votes for that semi. At the final Elina Nechayeva had no trouble quashing the evil that was Stig Rasta and Iiris & Agoh finished in fifth place.

Eesti Laul had another strong year so jury votes were split with the majority between Drop That Boogie, Girls In Pearls' Spellbound and Nika's Knock Knock. Shout out to the one person who voted for Indrek Ventmann's Tempel.​

What happened IRL?​

Emmy finished in second place in the first semi-final of France's national selection, Destination Eurovision. The semi was voted for purely by the French jury of Amir, Christophe Willem and Isabelle Boulay and the international jury which included (who else but) Christer Bjorkman. This meant Emmy proceeded to the final where she received the second highest combined jury vote but was sunk into fourth place when the televote was added.

Destination Eurovision had a mix of great songs and some pretty terrible ones so it's no surprise the majority of the jury voted for OK ou KO. Pretty sure the one juror who voted for Lisandro Cuxi only did so to give me nightmares.

What happened IRL?
Another year, another mostly lacklustre song selection from Germany. Winner Michael Schulte's You Let Me Walk Alone will do absolutely nothing at Eurovision and he's already taken to desperate measures like taking his clothes off to try and secure votes. Sad! Ivy's Sia ballad sounding House On Fire finished in fourth place at Unser Lied für Lissabon.

Only Ivy and two of the other songs attracted votes from our jury with House On Fire at 66.7% of the vote.

JUSTICE being served in the case of Poison (Ari, Ari), Drop That Boogie, Signals & OK ou KO getting through so far i also think I voted for that Albanian song but mainly because she reminded me of the blind lady in the stripper outfit reveal singing a peace ballad from Georgia a few years back.

What happened IRL:
Greece's national final was cancelled when the broadcaster disqualified ALL other entries but Yianna Terzi's Oniro Mou. Two of the final five entries were disqualified for not sounding Greek enough while the other two were disqualified when the associated record labels hadn't stumped up the amount of money to enter.

Tolvai Reni - Crack My Code

What happened IRL:
A Dal was another marathon of a national selection and truth be told, I'm not sure it's really worth the effort. Tolvai Reni's batshit Crack My Code was eliminated in heat 3 of the competition.

This was one of the jury votes I had to decide on a winner as three songs were tied with two votes each. So I decided to go with the most kii-worthy which is Crack My Code. The baffling choice of staging. The beatboxer. The half-assed reveal. The mid-song rap. Jenifer Brening found rotting.​

What happened IRL?
TBH I didn't even bother with Söngvakeppnin this year, so disappointing were all of the entries. Þórunn Antonía finished fifth in the first semi-final so didn't qualify for the final so never got to perform the English-language version of her song.

Our jury votes were mostly split between this, Kúst og fæjó, and Battleline. One more vote for Battleline would've meant it was chosen in place of Shine (@Rhombus).

Annalisa - Il Mondo Prima Di Te

What happened IRL:
God is there anything more soul destroying than trying to watch Sanremo? Oh that's right the Lithuanian and Maltese NFs.

Still WE made the right choice... the only choice really was Annalisa's Il Mondo Prima Di Te so well done everyone. Except the three of you who voted for other acts.

What happened IRL?
Latvia's Supernova continued to use Spotify streaming data to partly decide which acts progressed in their song selection for better or worse. This helped MADARA to come first in her semi-final and then she finished in third at the Supernova final.

Real talk though... has anyone seen MADARA and Loreena McKennitt in the same room at the same time (@A&E)

Our jury votes were all over the place which meant MADARA actually only needed 4 votes to win it.

The best part of this year's Supernova was actually none of the competing songs but the opening of the competition:

What happened IRL?
Oh god who knows. Bops aplenty fall by the wayside in the longest song selection process known to man and we end up with a winner that doesn't deserve it. Winning song When We're Old wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't sung in that welcum to mai kichen indie girl voice.

Most of you who included Paula's 1 2 3 on your ballot specified the "bop version" ddd so we're going to pretend the version she inexplicably trotted out towards the end of the six year national selection doesn't exist.​

Jasmine Abela - Supernovas

What happened IRL?
On one of the longest nights of the year, Malta chose a generic Bridge Troll-penned song to represent them at this year's contest. Great job guys. Jasmine's Zola Jesus-esque bop Supernovas finished middle of the pack in eighth place.

Our jury was split between five of the available fifteen songs with Jasmine attracting a couple more votes than the other four.​
