Interesting to note that the recent PJSC 115 round (also known as the “First round since Eurovision season officially ended so you can finally send in all those national final faves” round) included a few of these entries – Cazzi Opeia came in first, while Bess was joint 5th, so we almost had an exact switcheroo. Also, Elsie Bay fared ordinally better here, coming 16th as compared to joint 37th in PJSC.

  2. Janex really didn't deserve to flop like this.

    Maki and WowWowWowWow like this.
  3. And once again, thank you again to all of our voters. You know I love any excuse to drag out Eurovision season past its official ending, and it was fun to investigate these songs with you.

Here are everyone’s full votes. See you next time!

Hiya again, here are my final votes:

    Absolute faves:
12 points: Pauline Chagne – “Nuit Pauline” (the slightly remixed radio edit >>> EP version)
10 points: Javiera Mena – “Culpa”
08 points: LUMA – “All In”

Good but with less replay value para mí:
    7 points: Pongo & Tristany – “Dégrá.dê”
6 points: Bess – “Ram pam pam”
5 points: Reykjavíkurdætur – “Turn This Around”
4 points: La Rappresentante di Lista – “Ciao ciao”
3 points: Beatrise Heislere – “On the Way Home”
    2 points: Janex – “Deluzional”
1 point: Lolita Zero – “Not Your Mother”

Alina Pash would've got a spot somewhere in the middle of my ranking were it not for the slam poetry section.

Justice for Ecstasy and Kuuma jäbä.

    Final votes are here!

    12. Alina Pash – “Shadows Of Forgotten Ancestors”
    10. Sara Jo – “Muškarčina”
    08. Lolita Zero – “Not Your Mother”
    07. Pongo and Tristany – “Dégrá.dê”
    06. Fuld Effekt – “Rave med de hårde drenge”
    05. Javiera Mena – “Culpa”
    04. Bess – “Ram pam pam”
    03. Pauline Chagne – “Nuit Pauline”
    02. La Rappresentante di Lista – “Ciao ciao”
    01. Katy Rain – “Lele”

Below please find my finalist rankings. I used a two step, 3-tiered points system: first, I gave each song a "first impression" score (max of 10.0).

Then, I took the top 15 songs, and scored them each in categories of: VIBE, BEAT, and VOX (focusing more on delivery and attitude, rather than lyrics – partly as some are not in English, partly because lyrics are what I care about least in music!). See this screen grab, if you're interested!

12 – Alex Parker and Bastien – “All This Love” (my score: 28.0)

The irony here is that this song is perhaps the least "Eurovision" of the lot (in terms of lacking that patina of purely entertaining cheese I associate with this particular hyper-genre of music). It definitely stands alone in terms of being a "real" song on its own merits.

Furthermore, it sounds like The Weeknd covering A-ha's "Take On Me," which is a (perhaps expected, but nonetheless) winning combination.

    10 – Cazzi Opeia – “I Can’t Get Enough” (my score: 27.5)

For a long time (well, for several hours lol) I had this and my third place swapping back and forth – very close. Ultimately, it was the shimmery happy vibe as well as the more defined structure (it has a bit more "oomph" in its chorus) that nudged it ahead to second place for me.

8 – Beatrise Heislere – “On The Way Home” (my score: 27.5)

Possibly the best vox of the competition (10.0), both in terms of delivery and production. The relentless beat is giving Stevie Nick's "Stand Back." I just wanted a bit more definition between verse & chorus.

    7 – Felicia Lu – “Anxiety” (my score: 26.5)

My second favorite vox (9.5 – so much attitude). A strong structure/chorus brings this track to fourth place.

6 – Fuld Effekt – “Rave med de hårde drenge” (my score: 26.5)

Hands down the best beat in the competition (a perfect 10.0, in fact). I even enjoy these gents' vox...just not quite as strong a vibe as my top four.

    5 – LUMA – “All In” (my score: 26.5)

Pure vibe (the second highest – 9.5 – of my finalist ratings). If the vox gave a bit more, and there was a bit more of a beat kicking in at some point, it would have leapt a bit higher but as is, the pure sexy slinkiness is enough for a strong fourth alternate.

4 – Pauline Chagne – “Nuit Pauline” (my score: 25.5)

SO FRENCH! In all the best ways.

    3 – Javiera Mena – “Culpa” (my score: 25.5)

It's giving "Heads Will Roll" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

    2 – Daria – “Paranoia” (my score: 25.5)

A strong beat (and a well-conceived, repetitive chorus-ending earworm) carried this bop to the top 10.

1 – Lolita Zero – “Not Your Mother” (my score: 25.5)

My highest vibe rating (a perfect 10.0)! Sadly, the other categories saw it fall a bit behind the other strong finalists.

12 - Alina Pash – “Shadows Of Forgotten Ancestors”
    10 - Bess – “Ram pam pam”
8 - Elsie Bay – “Death Of Us”
    7 - Sara Jo – “Muškarčina”

    4 - Pongo and Tristany – “Dégrá.dê”
    3 - Pauline Chagne – “Nuit Pauline”

Halló aftur, here I am with my Eurovision-styled votes, again.

    12 Sweden: I Can’t Get Enough
This might be one of the most cliché songs out there for NF season - however the wholesome energy of Cazzi meets the relatable lyrics. I still can't stop listening this song on a daily basis, gives me motivation and energy throughout the day.

    10 Norway: Death of Us
Even though I loved the goofy-furry-bop of Subwoolfer, my winner was this song. Yes, I'm that dramatic gay and when there's an emotional song about a devastating break-up, I got summoned.

8 Ukraine: Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors
The power that that has, the intelligence that that has, the clearance that that has, the access that that has, the influence that that has, the profile that that has, the international implications that that has. This would be the winner I fully support. The voice, lyrics, emotions, all summed up and I'm not crying, you're crying!

    7 Slovenia: All In
    6 Lithuania: Not Your Mother
    5 Iceland: Turn This Around
    4 Germany: Anxiety
    3 Italy: Ciao ciao
    2 Serbia: Muškarčina
1 Denmark: Rave med de hårde drenge

13 Latvia: On the Way Home
    14 Spain: Culpa
    15 Portugal: DÉGRÁ.DÊ
    16 France: Nuit Pauline
17 North Macedonia: Flowers of Sorrow
    18 Croatia: Forgive Me (Oprosti)

Bess winning? And without @livefrommelbs to come and stan her? TALENT.

(Poor Daria deserved better, though. @iheartpoptarts sent her to a PJSC round last year and Paranoia became one of my favourite songs of 2021 before I even knew it was in the running for Eurovision.)

  8. Seeing my favourite and least favourite songs at complete opposites of the leaderboard...

Really, was national selection for Denmark so bad that was voted as its other best choice?

Glad my 12 for Lara paid off in the end. And scream at me being the only voter for her. That song by LUMA was an excellent discovery, it's great to see them do well.

Underrated corner: Inbal Bibi, Janex, Lara Ivanova and Elina Nechayeva.
The winner is a bop and deserved that title.

Thank you for the amazing hosting, @WowWowWowWow! This style of reveals was very entertaining and fun to follow.

  9. Ram Pam Pam deserved it

  10. I love Javiera almost too much to have fairly voted in this thing, but I asked myself if I'd have chosen "Culpa" as my 12 even if I hadn't been hammering it for months already, and the answer was yes.

Bess' song is brilliant too, by far the one I've replayed the most of any of these I hadn't heard before along with Pauline Chagne and Sara Jo. I'm really surprised Katy Rain didn't do better, "Lele" has had a lot of replay value for me too. Also a big fan of Alina Pash, but others shone a bit brighter in my rankings.

All in all, I enjoyed almost all of these songs at least a little bit. There was only one I turned off before it was done (Paulini), but a few I thought were quite nice (Baklava, Inbal Bibi and Janex) came in toward the bottom. My questionable taste is showing, it seems?

  11.
  12. Thanks so much for running this! This has been so fun!

Ram Pam Pam is fun and catchy as hell. Not a bad choice! And I'm very happy Pauline got top 3.

At the risk of upsetting some people, I'm just happy Cazzi missed the top 3.. oops!

  13. Not to forget Culpa was entered in PJXTRA 14 and only finished 7th. I gave it my 12 in that as well.

  14. Thank you for pointing it out. I couldn’t remember if Bess was in a PJSC or a PJXTRA round, and when I saw a bunch of our other names mentioned in the PJSC list, I just stopped there.

  15. SO much work went into this, @WowWowWowWow !!! Thank you so much for all your efforts.

So fun, even if most of you were way off base with your votes...

  16. Hugs! As a complete non-expert I'm not sure how I managed to get it in the PJSC before it was in the running for Eurovision but some selection committee somewhere should totally hire me.

How did you discover it in the first place?

  18. I don't and probably won't understand the exhausting amount of love that Ram Pam Pam receives (not because I don't like it - it's a nice song) but I'm glad about the results (including Finland). Thanks to all participants but BIG thanks to @WowWowWowWow to make this happen! The presentation just gave me life.

  19. Just looking all over the world for bops as usual!
