I've re-watched the original, II, 4 and 5 in the past week or so (the latter two for the first time in years).
II feels like a better film than 4 but I definitely enjoyed the latter more. II is so dull in the middle with the hospital deaths and only really gets good when Laurie decides to get out of bed.
I found most of Michael's scenes/kills funny in 4 which probably wasn't the intention but at least it makes for a fun watch. 5 is just BAD.

Halloween 5 does get a lot more interesting from Tina’s death onwards, which is no coincidence. Jamie running from Michael around the newly extended Myers McMansion is actually quite exciting. However, the first hour is just unforgivable. Too many unredeemable characters, THAT mask, Jamie auditioning for Strepsil ad for the first half and that fucking clown music wherever those two cops show up.
The man in black was the nail in the coffin for that timeline as well. There was no way they couldn’t reset the clock after that.

I know you can’t really see him sans the bird mask but I just know Halloween 5 Michael is hot.

Yeah - the end part is definitely the best when it's Jamie V Michael. Apart from the ridiculous crying scene. "Come and get your little girl," made me laugh.
I didn't remember the man in black or that triangle symbol from when I watched it years ago but I'm fairly sure it's connected to Halloween 6?
The one in 5 is dreadful! The way the bottom bits stick out at the neck.
I saw this yesterday and it was surprisingly camp. Very, very brutal. But also… it had numerous genuine (and some unintentional I would imagine) laughs too. It felt very much like the Scream 4 of the franchise in that sense.
Was it really so hard to give us some type of mask continuity?

The interview reads more like the film takes place in a time where the pandemic has taken place rather than being a pivotal part of the plot, which the headline suggests.
I am curious about ENDS and what the plot is. Without already seeing Kills, and assuming Michael survives (of course), where does he go for four years?
Introducing Covid in any capacity into a franchise that is mainly based around people getting stabbed to death by a man in a William Shatner mask is massively disrespectful to the people that have been, and continue to be affected by this very real pandemic.
COVID is going to be part of TV, films, and every other form of media for the foreseeable future. In what way is it disrespectful to acknowledge something that has dominated our lives for nearly two years and will have lasting effects for years to come?
Context, I suppose, and my reaction is very knee jerk. I just don’t think the slasher genre is built for that kind of tact, although I’m happy to be proven wrong.
I’m also not saying that Covid should never be acknowledged in art, the experience and the trauma will likely produce some incredible pieces, which it already has. I’m just not sure that Halloween Ends could acknowledge it in a way that a show like The Morning Show could perhaps do.
It just feels a bit tasteless, especially when they had a script that was ready to be filmed back to back with Kills. When you couple that with the delay and then the new announcement…it rubs me up the wrong way.
Ends starts filming in January. It got delayed due to the pandemic and in that time McBride and Green redid the Ends script.
