The Kacey Musgraves discography rate - #1 "scalp the gays"

Discussion in 'Charts, rates etc' started by KamikazeHeart, Oct 15, 2018.

  1. It was the winter of 2012. I was 21 years old, had secured my own apartment and was about to move away from home. Things were fucking scary. Life was scary. I had one semester left in college and life was practically around the corner.

It's funny how sometimes certain music comes to you when you need it the most. I remember reading about Merry Go 'Round on some forum - probably a chart-related one - and immediately thinking "what a lovely title, I should like this song". I remember listening to it. And sometimes you just know. You just know something is going to stay with you. It's going to sound just as good five years down the line as it does on that very first occasion. I knew. And I still know.

As I moved into such an uncertain phase of my life, there came this song that basically told me what would happen if I didn't take all the chances I saw coming. If I stayed in my safety. If I did what everybody else expected of me, rather than what I wanted to. And it's stayed with me since.

Then when the queer country anthem Follow Your Arrow came along, I surrendered completely. Kacey won my heart, and she's taken such good care of it since. Healing me through heartache, boosting my confidence when I've been feeling small, and when I've felt good, she's made me feel even better. Most importantly; she's always reminded me to be myself.

And then last night, I saw her live for the first time and got to thank her personally for it all.

  4. I can add that I was a bit arbitrary with choosing the extra tracks, she’s done so many duets these last years, but it felt pointless to include them all. The Christmas album was included after asking around if there would be any interest, and a couple people thought it would be cute to include.

I’ve also excluded all the stuff she released independently pre-Same Trailer, Different Park, simply because it’s not easily available legally and it’s not really part of her legacy.

And if anybody requests Apologize to be added I'll have all your scores disqualifed xx

  5. Yes! I was waiting for this to go live. I spent the weekend simultaneously working on my Vanessa ratings & Kacey ratings.

I just adore here. So, yeah... I'm in.

  6. I would have gone to see her last night, but I couldn't get tickets. All sold out.

  7. After Golden Hour I'm entirely IN to get to know the rest of her work.

  9. Super excited about this. I'm seeing Kacey on Sunday, so I'll be using this to get to know her music even better. There are potential 11s on all the three regular albums.

However, I hate most things related to Christmas, so I don't know how I feel about having to listen to A Very Kacey Christmas for the first time.

  10. Kacey Musgraves Thirst Club roll call.

Kind of worried my scores for the first two albums will be really low compared to Golden Hour, tibb.

  11. Perhaps you'll end up feeling the same as @ohnostalgia!

  12. Oh lordt.

The hardest part will be choosing my 11.

  13. I love Christmas music. I do not love A Very Kacey Christmas.

I have two very easy 0's and an even easier 11... all of which are on the same album.

Well one of them has to be Keep It On The Shelf To Yourself , so I’m a bit shook.

  15. I'm not really a fan of Keep It To Yourself, but giving it a 0 seems way too harsh!

Well I’m not 100% sure, but I just remember @VivaForever dragging it a lot like two years ago.

I don’t think Kacey has a single 0 in her discography, let alone 2.

WAIT I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS HAPPENING THIS SOON??? I'M GAGGED.

As a new Kacey stan, I'm excited to get to know her pre-Golden Hour material more.

Although I have a feeling Golden Hour would still have the highest average... and my 11 as well.

  18. HAHAHA no, actually, that'll probably get around a 6. I actually don't mind it at all now, though I used to, the story of which will of course form my commentary.

  19. Keep It To Yourself is gorgeous.

I imagine the lowest scores I'll be giving for the songs off her non-Christmas albums is a 5. Maybe I'm too easily pleased.
